Who do I donate to for Democrats?
I want to donate to the dem party - not to a candidate - how many "dem" organzations are there? I have a questionaire sent from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) - is that the Democrat Party?

I don't want to give to a fringe group, if there are any fringe groups, which I don't even know.

Thanks!

Or should I just send it straight to the Al Gore campaign?

1. Yes, That's Them
DNC = Democratic National Committee, which is the one and only official Democratic Party, founded by Thomas Jefferson. If you're unsure for any reason, go to Democrats.org and contribute online.

There are some folks who are hesitant to contribute to the DNC because they don't like its leadership or its perceived (in)competency. I think that's foolish, quite frankly. The Republicans have tons of money, and the DNC will need (and must have) the resources to compete. If the DNC starts to alter its strategies and policies out of fear of pissing off the "donor class," I think we're all in serious trouble. So I say send the bucks if you've got 'em (and even if you don't), and also keep the money flowing to Democratic candidates and progressive causes you care about.

Yes. the DNC is the national Democratic party

The website is
http://www.democrats.org/

you can just go there and click on 'Contribute'

or I would suggest also clicking on 'Get Local' and perhaps you would like to contribute to or volunteer with your local Democratic party.

3. Thanks to both of you!
Wanted to make sure it was the legit party. Your help is appreciated! yep, my questionnaire is from democrats.org, so we're looking good.

And doing something local also a good idea.

This registered Green has been voting straight dem (almost). Until the repukes start offering people who aren't part of the secret world domination SuperChristian cabal, I ain't voting Green. Whew!

7. Not to be confused with the DLC
It would be a tragic mistake to send it to the DLC if you intended to send it to the DNC.

4. You can donate to the DNC, or your state party.
I'm going the state party route, I think. I'm not sure how much the DNC is willing to spend on TX. Also, you might consider a donation to the local party. Our local party has one full-time, paid employee, except during elections.

5. Why not to candidates? There are always plenty 2 choose from.
Look in your community. I'm sure there must be many deserving Dems for whom a $25 contribution can make a huge difference in a small campaign.

I don't give soft dollars anymore because I don't like what they do with my money. I give only to candidates. And since I'm the head of a PAC that gives $$ only to pro-choice women candidates (multipartisan, BTW) I can say that not only do I know many of my local candidates, I have met almost all of them and sometimes been to their homes.

The only exceptions I make are to give $$ to my local Democratic club, and my county's Dem Central Committee. I make that exception because they're local and I know what my money's doing and where's its' going--or staying, as the case is.
