Feeling sorry for myself tonight.
My longtime companion was planning a trip to Italy, and wanted me to come with, but I told him he'd have to go without me, because I simply can't afford it right now, at this point.

We have traveled elsewhere together - France, Florida, a couple other places - but I haven't been anywhere for a very long time, and never to Rome or Florence, though I always wanted to go there. He even offered to lend me the money, but if I can't afford it, I can't afford it.

Now I just finished watching The Amazing Race, and I'm feeling sad now. :( Can someone give me an ehug or some words of wisdom?

I used to travel all over the world, all the time, I was always going somewhere new. And then suddenly, between 9/11 and just getting older, I stopped. I'll snap out of it, though. :)

11. I really wish there was a way you could afford it.
:(

Traveling is one of those things that feeds your spirit and keeps you happy and alive. It's one more thing that wrong with this economy. All the things people do to nurture themselves are being taken away.

I've always wanted to travel too. But I've never been able too. When I was young and healthy enough to travel I was too poor. By the time I was working and earning enough money to travel I was disabled and couldn't travel anymore. x(

Now I'm out on disability because I can't work anymore. I've got lots of free time. But I have neither the ability or the money to travel, so it really is just a pipe dream.

The best I'll do is occasional regional trips on buses and trains. So I make the best of it. I've visited a bunch of DUers around the northeast. :)

I hope to go back to Boston and Albany later this year. I'd like to finally make it up to someplace in Vermont, and down to Philly. And there are a couple of really wonderful DUers in Willimantic, CT that I would really love to visit again while I'll hopping around. So that's my ideal traveling for the year.

I don't know if I can afford it either, even though it's all local. But we'll see how this year goes. :(

12. That's a good point.
Traveling takes you out of your comfort zones and forces you to deal with reality on a different level than that to which you are accustomed. Especially if it's travel in a country where English is not the native tongue.

Thanks for the post. :) :hi:

14. I would be staying with a DUer.
:)

When I come to Albany I'd be staying with Malta Blue. Whenever it is that I can make it, I'd love to see you.

16. I have no real wisdom, but
here is a genuine

My aunt has always dreamed of getting an RV and showing me this country. I've always wished she'd have her dream, because I rarely get to travel, but love it when I do get to do it. Maybe later.

Ouch! I am there too, with no extra $$$...Got nothing to offer, but to share your sad. You are wise not to over extend, but it still sucks.

19. Maybe it's best not to go right now. When you get to Florence
you want to be ready to SHOP!!! That is not the place to be on borrowed and/or minimal funds! You've got time.
