Let's hear it for the DU musicians
I just realized how much music has enhanced my life a few minutes ago while sitting here and listening to a new band I discovered a few weeks ago. The music makes me happy. I'm a trucker and I have satellite radio as well as am/fm in my truck and I listen to music all night while I am out running up and down the road and making deliveries. I would probably be very depressed about my work if I didn't have music to help me through the night. And I like anything rock and roll- from the 50s to the present; from black metal to adult contemporary. I don't go out anymore to the bars, but when I did I always enjoyed the live music. I was probably one of the few people there who were actually grooving with the bands instead of trying to pick someone up.

Here's to the DU musicians! :toast: Keep playing and I'll keep listening.

7. That is a rather "manly" instrument.
Do you know (or now of) any female trombonists?

:hi:

8. S, I loved the guy who played the 'bone if Mingus's
big band, but I can't remember his name. Know who I mean - he was one of the really great bop players....

12. Kneppler
Probably Mingus's most highly regarded trombone player. Mingus ended up punching him, breaking his teeth.

13. That's him. A master of a difficult instrument, great ear, probably the fastest
trombonist I have ever heard.

Fuckin Mingus was not very tightly wrapped much of the time.

Thanks.

14. I think his most stunning work was Haitian Fight Song
Great song.

A very rare disc these days is the self titled debut of the New York Jazz Ska Ensemble and they do a fierce version of said song. Check it out, if you can find it.

4. No I just mean the DU musicians.
I'm like you, I love all kinds of music. I think music belongs on Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

I agree with the psychological need angle.

I even included a smiley.

Actually... I bet music could be considered part of the creativity thing in the hierarchy...

15. We only like musicians for friends, Howie...

Sorry...when I read "actually grooving with the bands instead of trying to pick someone up" I immediately went to Zappa's "Do You Like My New Car?"
