Why does anyone live in Embarrass, Minn? |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 08:36 PM by geniph
Every day, I glance at the weather in the paper, and it has the high and low temperatures for the continental U.S. Every day, the low is in Embarrass, Minn., and it's always some ghastly unimaginable gasoline-freezes type of temperature. How do people even survive in that climate?!
I surely hope for the sake of any Embarrassites (Embarrassed?) here that the summers are pleasant...
and on edit - is it juvenile of me to snicker at the irony of the coldest place in the U.S. sounding like Em-Bare-Ass?

Embarrass is located on the Mesabi Iron Range, and there used to be very good, high-paying jobs working in the iron mines. It's also still fairly cheap to live up there, too.
The country up around there is beautiful, as well, and the summer weather is quite nice (highs in the 80s). It's a decent place to live, if you can bear a couple months of deep freeze.
And as any Minnesotans will tell you, if it's too cold outside, just stay indoors. And dress in layers.

12. But, in all fairness, living in that climate would turn anyone's penis white... |

6. We Minnesotans only get embarrassed when we don't have some godawful low temperature to brag about. |

Do you have to go through Intercourse, to get to Paradise?
Or can you just take the Hershey Hiway?

11. I live in CA now after having lived in MN for over 40 years - I miss having actual seasons |
|
Yes it is cold in the winter, but you have advance warning for when the super cold is coming, and you adjust accordingly. The mere mention of the words "Alberta Clipper" by any meteorologist sends all upper midwesterners to the grocery store to stock up so one does not have to go out in the frigid windchills.
Summers in northern Minnesota are beautiful. Clear crystal blue skies, gorgeous forests, much greenery, and there are a lot of things to do as far as recreation goes. And the golf courses are good too.
Our sky here in California is never clear crystal blue. It is always steel grayish and ugly.

beautiful blue, the sun shines even on the coldest days, and summer and fall beauty are indescribable. But the winters are getting to me. Must be age. The cost of living in CA makes me wonder if I could ever go back.
