1. He's playing a pretty basic 8th note rock drum groove...
...8th notes ("1 2 3 4") on the hi-hat, kick on the "1 & 3-and" while the snare is on the "2" and the "4."

For example, counted like this "one and two and three and four and...":

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
x    x    x    x     = hi-hat
x         x x        = kick
     x          x    = snare

I think this the most perfect of drum routines

"Empires" have been built on the foundation of that pattern...

2. Any idea who invented it?
It's standard in a lot of hip hop too

3. No name, it will vary because of backbeats and accents. Do you drum?

5. Despite my love of music and the internet radio show that I DJ
I have no other musical skills

I can't play any instruments or sing to save my life

Despite that, music is my sanctuary, music is my life
