Your favorite Beatles songs? |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 08:04 PM by WillyBrandt
My top four. They all evoke memories of girls, so there you go.
1. Rain 2. Hey Jude 3. Two of Us 4. Don't Ever Change (which is a cheezy cover they did for the BBC)
OK, I'll say a bit more. I was told that the girl who became my first g/f like me, and that day heard Hey Jude for the first time. Which kind of fit.
Don't ever Change was a song I sent to an artist I went out with. And she gave me as a gift a Flask with "Whether it rains or shines, it's just a state of mind" enscribed on it.

1. As soon as you posted, I immediately thought "Penny Lane" |
|
Just innocent, catchy, and, as usual, produced to perfection.

How could you forget Help?! I only wish I could get it as a "ringtone" to have on demand. Then whenever I am in an argument with a R, I could play my tone!

with its reference to going upstairs on the doubledecker bus to smoke -always reminds me of my beloved English grandfather.
I've always loved HELP too - those words are just timeless.

6. 1. And Your Bird Can Sing (dueling guitars rule) |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 08:07 PM by Whitacre D_WI
2. Rain (great minds think alike on this one) 3. Girl (tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit) 4. I'm So Tired (I am often tired) 5. Think For Yourself (George's best, with some KILLER fuzz bass) 6. Wild Honey Pie (this is what rock & roll means to me) 7. I'm Down (Paul was best when ripping off Little Richard) 8. I Wanna Hold Your Hand (seriously mad guitar riff) 9. Ticket to Ride (proof that Ringo was NOT a "bad drummer") 10. I've Just Seen a Face (probably the only sappy McCartney song I like)

the opening is still a sweet, exilarating experience 3 decades later.
lennon/mccartney were the best, but george harrison made the perfect beatle song.

Here are some, off the top of my head (listed alphabetically):
THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO CAN'T BUY ME LOVE A HARD DAY'S NIGHT HELP! HELTER SKELTER I FEEL FINE I SAW HER STANDING THERE I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND I'M DOWN PAPERBACK WRITER PLEASE PLEASE ME REVOLUTION SHE LOVES YOU TICKET TO RIDE TWIST AND SHOUT (Even better than the Isley Brothers, IMHO!) YOU CAN'T DO THAT
I definitely prefer the earlier Beatles to that later psychedelic stUFF. And no matter what group of Beatles fans I encounter, that always seems to put me in the minority.

Nice to listen to.
"We Can Work It Out" is one of their more sexist tracks I like, as is "Day Tripper", but the chick-blaming gets on my nerves though...

13. My favorite song for 37 years now: "A Day in the Life". Plus |
|
I Am the Walrus, of course, plus about 80% of all Beatles' songs.
I do NOT like "Taxman", and it is overplayed, as well.

First song that came to my mind when I saw the thread title, before I even clicked and saw it at the top of your list. Great tune. Also big on "She's a Woman" - love that feedback intro segueing into that really admirable guitar lick

|

That one, I dig a pony, Helter Skelter, Here comes the sun, My guitar gently weeps, I want you, Day tripper, LSD, man, this band is really just the gold standard, aren't they? I could name ten more songs and still not be done.
Help.

From Live at the BBC. The handsome gent has blue eyes, the softest golden brown hair, a killer smile, and is all of 2 ft 10 inches tall.
My other favorites: She Loves You If I Fell Hello, Goodbye Paperback Writer Please, Please me In My Life Here Comes the Sun Octopus's Garden Revolution Penny Lane We Can Work it Out P.S. I Love You

25. Most of the Rubber Soul/Revolver stuff |
|
Also Please Please Me, Yes It Is, Goodnight, I Wanna Hold Your Hand. There's a lot of them. It's probably easier for me to pick a least-favorite Beatles song.
I also like one of the "re-discovered" songs -- Free As A Bird.
