Tomorrow, I am going to read one of my poems in public! |
|
My local community college is having a celebration of the life of a Dean who recently died...
My teacher thought of me, and I will be part of this!
Here's what I'm going to read:
Spring
The timid and tender
Greens of spring
Fearful of winter’s strike
So new on the trees
Backlit by the sun
Pale and shimmering
In the hesitant light
So cautiously
Growing day by day, Soon they will be
The brassy overheated
Greens of high summer
Their innocence lost
In the sun’s harsh light

It's funny...the inspiration for this came to me when I was out driving a couple of springs ago...
And it was exactly the quality of the light coming through the trees that set me off...
Thanks, sweetie! :hi:

I'd say "knock 'em dead" but that seems inappropriate. Sorry. Gallows humor.
Have a wonderful reading, CaliforniaPeggy! :bounce: You've read in public a few times now, how does it feel? Are you comfortable reading your work to others? A friend who is a published novelist said she always got butterflies before a reading... :hi:

I usually feel some butterflies, but they vanish quickly, usually! *fingers crossed*
Gallows humor works just fine for this old retired nurse!
I enjoy reading in public. I've been doing it for about a year now, at the weekly Redondopoets.com. They have a forum with a guest poet, and the open mic as well...
Last week I read two erotic poems (Flame and The Kiss, both of which are in my Journal, lol) and I brought down the house! It was a very heady feeling, I can tell you...
Thanks for your very kind wishes, sweetie!

27. I read one of my poems in public once... |
|
...I was let off with a warning. Little good that did. I just went around the corner and read it again! But then another cop caught me and let me off with another warning. And as George Bush once said, "Fool me once...shame on you. Fool me twice...can't get fooled again."
Meet the new poet...same as the old poet.
Let me just save you the trouble, CP. I'll spank myself this time.

You know, I had been trying for years to write an adequate poem about sunlight on leaves in spring. And then one day I was driving, and I saw the sunlight doing just that...
These words sprang into my mind.
Thank you, sweetie...

The spoken word, oh, the depth and character you could add to the already moving passages.

Ah, alas, no...
I wish there were a way, but I didn't have time to set this up with a friend of mine...
You are a sweetheart for asking, though...
I promise you: If we ever meet, or speak on the phone, I will read this, and any other poem you like...OK?
Thank you for your very tender thoughts, sweetie...

Truly, while words alone are beautiful, the spoken word lifts them from the page and gives them dimension.
I'm gonna take you up on this, I promise! :pals:
