1. I knew very little about the Byrds until I downloaded The Fifth Dimension a couple months ago. It
fucking blew me away. I was like, "Where have you been all my life?" Is the Dylan album any good?

3. It cherry-picks their Dylan covers...
...and as such, draws from amazing material. Their Dylan tunes were among their best, but if you enjoyed "Fifth Dimension," I encourage you to keep exploring their catalog.

You also can't go wrong with this CD:

2. Glad you included "You Ain't Going Nowhere"
It's not only one of my favorite Byrds tracks, it's also one of my favorite Dylan tracks-- even though McGuinn messed up the "pack up your money, pick up your tent" line.

4. Chimes of Freedom, far and away.
McGuinn sang it as if it were his own.

I saw McGuinn play live lots of times during his fundie days. He used to play "My Father's Place" on Long Island during its heydey.

He was still pretty damn good.

I have no idea if he is still a fundie, but he was a fine musician and fine singer.

6. toss up between Chimes and My Back Pages
Had tickets to see a late version of The Byrds in about '74 but they canceled at the last minute ; replaced by The Deliverance Band, so not bad, but still wish I'd seen the Byrds in some form or another , just once...( other band on the bill, BTW, was Paul Butterfield---interesting pairing...)... At least I finally saw Crosby with CS&N about 3 years ago, and saw Chris Hillman at an all day bluegrass festival about 25 years ago...( Bill Monroe was there too!) . And to ogneo...5D is incredible , isn't it?

8. The "Bob Tribute" version of "My Back Pages"...with Neil Young, Clapton, Harrison....
...absolutely SLAYED me.

And the lines "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" are among THE best that Bob's ever written.

I was trying to sneak in "condemned to drift or else be kept from drifting"

guess I just did, and yeah, I agree 100% with you on that tribute version and that line... but picking out Dylan's best lines; I think I could probably narrow it down to his best couple hundred, including stuff from (relatively) obscure songs like Please Crawl Out Your Window, When the Night Comes Falling.........BTW, I just finished reading Suze Rotolo's autobiography; interesting perspective on the old Village days...:toast:

9. I can't see how anyone would pick "Mr. Tambourine Man"...
...when it omits all but one of the verses.

10. It was one of the best-known songs, and...
...if I left it out, someone would have asked "HOW COULD YOU LEAVE OUT MR. TAMBOURINE MAN?"
