Oops. Just set the oven on fire.
Well, not the oven itself, but I forgot I'd put tortillas with cheese in there, and after about, oh, 20 minutes or so I went over to open the oven and flames popped out. :scared: I screamed, the smoke alarm went off, then I grabbed the box of baking soda and tossed it on the flaming tortillas.

But holy jeebus, I had visions of the house burning down. Really frightening there for a few seconds; I started to cry I scared myself so badly!

People: keep baking soda handy, and a fire extinguisher if you can.

This ends my public service announcement for the evening. :hi:

2. once it was over, it was kinda funny (though my husband
damn near broke his kneecap getting upstairs when I screamed).

Isn't comedy something like tragedy or disaster averted?

3. Something like that.
But of course, the comic relief always comes after the drama.

7. Yeah, kinda...just a little bit.
I can't go into it now- it was an ordinary, everyday "bad situation"
that just ESCALATED...
15 minutes of my life that would take 2 hours to explain.

And it's gonna take me a day or three to figure out
how to explan it in a single DU post.

But ItellyaWhut: If I had had a "Documentary Film Crew"
following me for 35 minutes on Monday morning, they would
have enough footage for a "Comedy of Errors" film
that would be widely regarded as "Chaplinesque".

PM in a day or 2 to remind me that I need to talk about it.

8. Can't wait to hear about it.
And I do understand.

Believe me, I could have given doc crews more footage than they could ever use!

12. Yikes! Glad you're OK!

It happens like that, though, doesn't it? Fast, and often because of some silly, harmless mistake.

16. I've had them served that way at "Mexican" restaurants before.
There's a reason I mostly eat at home.

19. Miz t. did that with some toasting garlic buns last night.
I walked in the kitchen and smoke was rolling out of the oven.
She had her back to it.
I pointed and said "Problem?"
"OH SHIT! JESUS! DAMN!"
;-)

20. Hate when that happens
Glad all went ok.

I make it a point not to put anything but glass and metal in oven (or on stove). I occasionally store dishware in there.

Preheat oven to 400...

even if I do an ooboo it's a simple recovery.

23. smoke alarm scared them, as did me hollering for my husband,
but otherwise, all is well. Not much of a mess, either, once I vacuumed up the baking soda that I'd flung all over the kitchen :D
