MORE pathetic than a doped-up dog in one of those stupid collars?

"No, no -- the shame is too great."

"You mean you might take it off?"

3. Yes. He's a big baby. He broke his toe about 10 days ago and got an infection in his foot from
licking at the bandage. So now it's the dreaded collar for him. We'll see how long it lasts. Right now he's just standing there staring at the floor, still high.

4. I would help him lie on his side and pat him, and tell him he's a good boy.
He just looks so pitiful! Is he wobbly from anesthesia?

5. Yes; they gave him anesthesia and some kind of narcotic. The anesthesia is off (it's one of those
that they give them *another* shot to come out of it); he's all doped up on whatever else they gave him. I had him lie down and he got up again; he's just sitting there staring. Oh, and pooping on the floor. Poor guy.

7. My pooch had to wear that a couple times. Never one that big! I called them milk jugs.
Wanna see a doped up dog? Try sedating one to get through the fireworks around 4th of July. I just hate it.

8. Is it really too big on him? Maybe I could trim it down...
Does your guy get nervous at storms too? They don't seem to bother ours, AFAIK -- we've only had them about six months and we haven't been through storm season with 'em yet.

9. It really does look so big! Can his mouth reach the food or water bowl?
My pooch was a basket case during storms! One thunderbolt, and he'd come flying across the house to jump in my lap! Or at night, come flying onto the bed to snuggle.

He's deaf now, but he can feel vibrations, like fireworks.

Tell you a funny story, when he had that surgery that was going to make him deaf, there was a terrible thunderstorm that night. He had to stay at the vet clinic for a couple days, and I was so upset that the storm was upsetting him the night of his surgery.

I could not sleep all night, because I just knew he was afraid. I forgot, he couldn't hear it anymore!

10. He's so messed up he hasn't tried to eat yet. But now that I look at it, yeah, he probably won't be
able to...DUH!

Aw...that's so sweet/sad about him being afraid of storms. And, hee about him being deaf and you worrying about him! No matter what, we worry.

What kind is he?

11. I was so upset about the loud storm that night. But duh, he couldn't hear it!

I think your pooch needs a smaller milk jug. How can he reach food or water with that monstrosity?

12. Aw! Puppy!
I cut it down and even took it off so he could eat, but he wasn't interested. He's still high as a kite. But at least he'll be able to eat in the morning, now. He has to be sitting there saying, "WTF is your problem, human?"

13. The ear surgery mine had, before the deaf one,
they had advanced products and techniques so he didn't even need the milk jug. It worked! My dog never touched it.

What kind of surgery did your dog have?

My dog was stoned for a week after the major surgery. I was to give him pain pills 3 times a day. Oh Lord, was that pitiful, LOL!

15. It wasn't major -- they just doped him up so they could re-wrap a bandage on a broken toe. He had
been licking at the bandage and his other toes got chapped and infected, hence the milk jug. I'm starting to think they knocked him out a little harder than he needed, but he's also kind of a baby and I think he's looking for cuddles -- which he's getting, of course.

17. Oh, mine had an infected toenail removed once, but I don't recall that resulting in the milk jug.
He was acting very strange, which I accounted to the fireworks that week which I know upsets him. I was giving him the usual puppy prozac for that time of year.

One day I noticed he had a nail hanging, and it did not look so good. I picked up his paw to get a look, and he bit me. He would never do that, so I called the vet immediately. They had to do surgery to remove the infected nail, and it was so bad they had to remove part of his paw.

Crap! I thought it was the fireworks upsetting him. I was wrong. He had to wear a cast after that, so no milk jug required. The mailman was upset with me. He thought someone had abused him and broken his leg. Ugh!

16. Thank you! I'm sure he'll be fine in the morning, but he has to wear that for at least a week!
