Rumor: FREDDY VS. JASON VS....ASH?
On the eve of the release of New Line's "Freddy Vs. Jason," it should come as no surprise to discover that the grinding wheels of development are already hard at work on concepts for the next film in the inevitable "Freddy & Jason" franchise.

Reliable sources have revealed that one of the current ideas being tossed around includes a scenario where Freddy and Jason would team-up against a common enemy: Bruce Campbell as Ash from the "Evil Dead" films. As crazy as it might sound, this concept has apparently been met with a great deal of enthusiasm in the upper-echelons of New Line Cinema. (Not to mention the degrees of separation: "FvsJ" producer Sean S. Cunningham directed Campbell in last years "Terminal Invasion" for the SciFi Channel.)

1. OK, Jason/Freddy I wouldn't pay to see
but Jason/Freddy v. Ash? Yeah. I'd cough up $10 for that.

Gotta love the horribly unsubtle mix of gore and riotous humor.

6. Maybe...just maybe
Ash would be the one who finally kills them really really dead and we wouldn't be subjected to any more stupid Freddy or Jason movies. :-)

13. last Friday the 13th I saw
featured the Freddy hand, right at the end, reaching up out of the ground to pull down a newly re-dead Jason. Don't know which # that was in the series... 12? 13?

BTW - anyone know if Robert Englund will still do Freddy?

19. actually
they had the premiere for Freddy v. Jason here in Austin last weekend, at the Alamo Draft House (Austin's best film-underground venue, far-and-away), and the reviews from knowledgeable locals have in fact been very good. I'm quite looking forward to it.

Freddy/Jason v. Ash would be totally great, but if-and-only-if Sam Raimi directed it.

But hell, I'm still waiting for the Alien v. Predator movie, or a real telling of the Hellraiser story - check out the puzzle boxes from this gallery (you can buy one if you like): http://www.pyramid-gallery.com/.

The Hellraiser story itself is really excellent. They just haven't made that great of a movie of it yet - oddly enough, the most recent sequel was very probably the best one.

4. Blasphemy!
Some things should not be combined. The great Evil Dead franchise should not be associated with this tripe.

9. I've seen "Freddy Vs. Jason."
Most of you who like horror flicks and entertainment for entertainment's sake will love it. It takes both characters back to their previous gory glory.

Then, of course, there are a few here who look for, and require, deeper meaning in everything and will seek any reason dismiss the film.

Too bad.

This "tripe" is great entertainment.

I know what to expect. That's why I'm going. Man can not live by politics alone. Sometimes you have to have meaningless entertainment.

17. It has to be directed by Sam Raimi!!
No other would do.
Maybe the necromicon would summon them up? Of course what would Ash be doing with that book, AGAIN, would be a interesting setup.
He'll just have to introduce his BOOM STICK, to Freddy and Jason.

"Shop smart shop S Mart, YOU GOT THAT!!"

My dream come true. Hope it follows one of the comics, where the Predators "seed" agrarian planets with alien eggs.

COOL.

21. story-wise
not that this has ever stopped anything, but it's a difficult story to try to tie together. The three Evil Dead movies follow a storyline and the character of Ash, even though some (me) thought the third one departed from the arc to a substantial degree.

Regardless, the Evil Dead aren't really identifiable characters, except for maybe Ash's evil twin in the Army of Darkness episode. They're more like demons who possess any opportune flesh or dead sinners.

Also, recall that the Evil Dead can be "killed," with mere shotguns/arrows/missiles, and that Freddy only exists in the dreamworld (or have they changed that?). And, of course, depending on which ending you believe, Ash either gave up ghoul hunting and tried to pursue a normal life, or wound up 3000 years in the future.

So, how you get all three of these characters together is a mystery to me.

You know what's an all right movie? "Wishmaster." Really not that bad, as these things go.
