Vibes, if you would...for my tooth...
Seems as though this is the week for tooth problems!

A couple of days ago, my upper right molar started biting back!

It continued today, but didn't get any worse...

So today I decided it was time to be seen by my dentist, a terrific and lovely guy!

He poked, prodded and then took an x-ray...Seems as though the gum might be infected...great.

So now I'm on antibiotics, and hopefully this will take care of it.

Otherwise I get to have the root canal opened up...oh yeah, that's where that is!

I'm hoping not!

:scared:

1. Peg, the antibiotics usually take care of the inflamation and pain,
but even the root canal should not be too terrible - they are a lot better at it than they used to be.
Ease your mind.
All the best.

3. My dear old mark!
So I was told! My dentist didn't think there was anything wrong with the root canal itself...as far as he could see!

So we're hoping that the PCN will do the trick...

Thank you for your reassurance!

It means a lot...

5. My dear bluesbassman!
Oh, thank you for the vibes!

You know that I always do as my doctor tells me...as a retired nurse, I know that's the way to get well!

My readings? They went very well! I read at my local community college on Tuesday, and several folks came up to me afterwards to compliment me...

And Tuesday night at the open mic went well also...

Tuesday was a very poetic day, all in all!

Thanks for asking, sweetie...

Yes, modern dentistry does do very well for these problems! It wasn't too long ago that I would have most likely lost that tooth the first time around...

Some things do get better!

I grew up with tons and tons of dental problems (found out later that I have extra-thin enamel on my teeth, so regardless of what I did, I was going to have problems).

Believe me, darlin', you have my sympathy and a boatload of vibes! :loveya:  :loveya:

Ooh, thin enamel? That's gotta suck...

I've been very lucky...very few problems with my teeth...

I had fluoridated water when I was a child, and I'm sure that helped...

So, when I do have problems, it's always a shock!

Thanks for the boatload of vibes, sweetie! :loveya:  :loveya:

few days later closed it. Never bothered me again.

Luckily, it's only my tooth, and only when I bite down on it...

My ear isn't involved!

Right now, it's just penicillin, and believe me, I am taking it! Every 6 hours, and I have the vial right here next to me, so I won't forget my next dose, around midnight!

I wondered when you were going to show up...

I used to get earaches and toothaches, not sure which are worse but they can both be particularly nasty:

21. If a dentist blows the first root canal, why do you have to pay for the fix-up?
Edited on Fri Mar-06-09 11:42 AM by DeepBlueC
Can you think of any other business that won't refund the price or replace a defective product?

I know it is not reasonable to expect a lifetime guarantee, but if it is clear after months that you still have the problem you sought treatment for shouldn't they take responsibility? I do not know if dental plans cover do-overs but given what we know of insurers generally, probably not. Or maybe they do and that's why endodontists feel justified in billing twice to get one job done.

I hope your tooth settles down.

23. My dear DeepBlueC...
Ah, I should have made my point more clearly: It's been decades since I had the root canal! They did a great job, and my distress is not a result of any poor workmanship on their part...

I'm sure that if my trouble had come along soon after the original work the oral surgeon would have done repairs at no cost to me...

But this was not the case.

Sorry for the confusion!

:hi:

And thank you...I hope it settles down too! It'll be several days before I know for sure...

22. Abcess.
I have periodontal disease and used to get those a lot.
I have no upper molars now.
Well, I have them, but I can take them out when I want to.
;-)
Antibiotics will usually clear it up within 24 hours.

If they numb you up right, root canal is no biggie any more. I've had a couple. No prob.
Good luck.

If it's entirely within the tooth, that's another kettle of fish.

38. Ouch!
I feel for you.

I was told I have a molar that needs to come out back in October. (This is after a root canal, crown, and other attempts to shore it up.)

I've been putting it off because I don't have the 4K needed for the extraction and implant.

Usually it doesn't bother me, but today is not good. (This just might drive me back to the sour mash whiskey as a palliative.)

I hope those pills knock out the problem for you.

I've had two teeth that needed root canals after they had already been crowned. I was lucky--had a great oral surgeon. He dripped anesthetic steadily into the canal as he worked, so pain was no issue during the procedures. My jaw was sore afterward, though. Hope you escape this fate!
