9. My Members Only jacket
My Members Only jacket (I still have it-- never wear it, probably too small these days).

My feathered hair.

My girlfriend's BIG hair.

My girlfriend's Gloria Vanderbilt jeans topped with a fuzzy pink sweater.

Those horrible 80's bands (Duran Duran New order, etc) that I still hate, but listen to more than just about anything else.

MTV playing videos-- which brings us to The Police videos-- no story, structure or acting, just some goofballs jumping around in a studio. but By Golly! It worked!

And, the cherry on top: Polo Classic cologne, which I still wear :)

27. In an overall package? The movie "Back to the Future"
Fine commercial pop, a Delorean, youth angst, use of a shopping mall as an important backdrop, mild escapism, a depiction of homelessness, rise of Japanese car brands, skateboarding, prominent use of a camcorder and a walkman, and of course the LIBYANS!!!

28. I remember the 80s as a long political struggle against Reaganism by
a sort of ill-matched coalition that included hard-nosed leftwing jerks (who were usually correct) and very nice touchy-feely political nitwits, with a smattering of cynics who were tagging along in hopes of getting stoned or laid

42. Patrick Bateman from 'American Psycho.' In the book moreso than in the movie.
To me he exemplifies the mixture of predatory, sociopathic capitalism and encroaching Fascism that lay and still lies at the root of the whole "Reagan" ideology - he's sadistic, hateful, fathomlessly cruel. And yet at the same time he's wealthy, good-looking, a ladies' man and the life of the party. With mountains of cocaine and a gloriously cheesy/kitsch soundtrack to match.
