Poll question: Most disgusting fast food chain (we're talking the food, not the companies)
Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 04:16 PM by HopeHoops
I know, I know - they are all gross. But WHICH has the most disgusting of the greasy high-fat artery-clogging sewage in a wrapper masquerading as food?

Note: I didn't include Jack in the Box because they haven't been east of the Rockies in like 20 years.

1. Dude, Carl's Jr. wins. Why isn't that on the list?
They were featured in Idiocracy for a reason.

27. Hardee's used to be great, before they were bought out by the Carl Jr.'s parent company.
I loved, loved, loved The Big Cookie. Brings back many great memories of childhood.

Haven't been to a Hardee's in a long while, although last time I was there (I think post Carl Jr.'s takeover) their menu was a lot less diverse.

Back when they had Will Rogers' friend chicken. I can no longer eat there.

49. I believe the death was caused by E. coli O157:H7
in an undercooked (cattle) beef patty.

As far as I know the kangaroo meat thing is an urban legend most often attributed to Mickey D's. (Funny, I'd heard Wendy's.)

9. It did, and they are remarkably strict about hygiene now
I worked at a JitB for 3 days in high school, about 5 years after those people died from food poisining, and at the time, they had incredibly strict cleaning and cooking protocols.

Most of the 3 days I worked there I was watching videos on how to wash my hands and clean the equipment.

From an objective standpoint it's probably the worst-quality fast food out there, but my tastebuds must be so fucked-up from a lifetime of such slop that I actually enjoy it. The Crunchwrap Supreme with "hot lava" cheese sauce? Give me a bong hit and I'm down! :P

and he came up with this 50-pount bag of dry-as-desert chowder powder w
which was like concrete only with little lumps of stuff that was supposed to be clams.
he poured half the bag in a vat of water and ,,,presto! soon it would be genuine new england clam chowder..

25. The pictures remind me of Little Tavern death burgers
They had Little Taverns in MD when I was a kid. You would get a bag filled with some kind of nasty salty mystery meat patty with the stoplight of death - red death (possibly ketchup), yellow death (possibly mustard), and green death (possibly pickles). That was my introduction to the concept of terminal heartburn.

I've been a vegetarian for 20 years now.

Maybe not love it, but when you are traveling in podunk towns where every meal has something formerly cute and furry in it, Taco Bell is an oasis.

They should have an option for "All of the above except Taco Bell," but since you don't, I picked KFC.

As for Jack in the Box, they are all over Texas, and Texas usually vacations east of the Rockies this time of year.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A man was burned when he fell into a deep-fryer unit at a Manchester, N.H., fast-food restaurant.

District Fire Chief Al Poulin says the 20-year-old man was cleaning an exhaust hood over the fryer at a KFC on Sunday when he slipped and fell, burning his arms, face and chest.

The man's name was not released.

Literally, I would get sick when I ate it. I stopped eating there at least 10 years ago. Taco Bell and Arby's are the only fast foods I enjoy.

The only place I have ever seen attempt to sell brown veggies and green tinted meat. Not to mention the lousy milquetoast mush they call bread.

79. Got food poisoning at Taco Bell last year.
Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 07:32 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
Two weeks later, the building was torn down. A few weeks after that, a new Taco Bell stood in its place.

I also got food poisoning at Jack In The Box once, many years ago, before the widely-publicized e-Coli scandal and the resulting fallout and image-rebuilding.

111. I dislike In and Out for the sole reason....
....that they apparently think they are too good to expand beyond the West Coast. Don't tell me how supposedly great your burgers are if you're not willing to prove it to the entire country.

That being said, whenever I do make it out to Cali to visit, yeah I'll definitely try an In and Out.

The pizza is much better than what you find at other chains, such as Papa John's, Godfather's, or CeCe's.

93. Sonic had my vote until I saw Hardee's.
No fast food joint is worse than Hardee's. Second worst is Sonic. I swear I think they dip the bread in the deep fat fryer before making the sandwiches at Sonic. Their milkshakes are great, but they can keep that crap they call food...except when my aunt insists we eat there. Then I have no choice and I grumble about it the whole time.

94. I'm going to point out the ironic...
Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 11:21 PM by Chan790
Taco Bell, who is currently winning this poll, is the only option in this poll to serve a cruelty-free entree. (i.e. vegan...but I refuse to call any Yum!-brand food-item vegan as veganism is an ethical choice...and there is nothing ethical about Yum!)

Given that option is the bean burrito, fresco (no cheese or other high-fat toppings. Just lettuce, onions and tomatoes...Taco Bell uses shortening rather than lard in their refried beans because it's cheaper.)...which is gross, it's not a great accomplishment. But it is ironic. It's probably the healthiest option on any nation-wide fast-food chain's menu...again, no great accomplishment.

95. I happen to think their lard-free beans are an accomplishment.
I live in the "big avocado" (San Diego) where there is a taco shop on every corner and an authentic Mom-and-Pop Mexican restaurant in every neighborhood. Good Mexican food is easy to find here, but the beans are almost always a disaster. You get a puddle of lard with some beans floating in it. Authentic, maybe, but DISGUSTING and extremely unhealthy due to the saturated fat of the lard. I congratulate Taco Bell for using vegetable oil in the beans instead of lard, and for getting the texture and seasonings of the beans just right. And the amount of vitriol and hatred DUers want to spit at me for this position doesn't amount to a hill of beans to me.

101. they aren't all COMPLETELY gross- they each have something worth eating...
at least something i can usually stomach.

burger king- their fish sandwich(the whaler, for purists) is one of the best in fast fooddom.
mcdonald's- sausage mcmuffin w/cheese & hash-browns before 10:30, asian chicken salad after.
wendy's- baked potatoe, chili, chocolate frosty.
arby's- corned beef reuben and curly-fuckin'-fries
taco bell- mexi-melts and crunchy taco supreme
roy rogers, sonic, hardees- not in our neck of the woods.
kfc- i love their potatoe wedges and cole slaw, and their original recipe chicken. and the biscuits.
white castle- i gave them up when i stopped drinking alcohol. there are no redeeming qualities in their products...THEY really are 'completely gross'.

Their chicken does not agree with me. Gives me a raging case of indigestion and farts that'll give a person cancer. Their only saving grace are their biscuits. :9

BK's burgers haven't been agreeing with me recently either, the few times I've eaten there.

110. You left out Zaxby's. I don't know if they're outside GA and SC.

I believe the company is GA-based.

THey sell chicken wings, sandwiches, salads with chicken, etc.

THey are SUPER-salty. And their much-vaunted "sauce" is, I think, just Thousand Island dressing with the pickles filtered out.
