Soo.. I almost got a speeding ticket today.
I was driving home from work, listening to the radio with my mind on happenings at work today. So I was following behind a person, saw a car that briefly crossed my mind could have been an undercover state trooper, but my mind was elsewhere and it didn't seem to be a trooper. The person in front of me got over in front of the car I thought might have been a trooper and I kept going around the both of them. Turns out it was a state trooper, I got pulled over for the first time in my life. The trooper was nice and let me off with a warning after I admitted that I didn't notice he was a trooper and if I had I wouldn't have sped up to 11 miles over the speed limit.

Thank god he was feeling nice today! I got off with a warning.

So my question to the lounge is...

What do YOU do to keep yourself from speeding?

Some days I am better at it than others, but today I was off in la-la land.

What tips do you have for those of us with a lead foot that would like to stop?

1. That explanation shows a lot of chutzpah - "I wouldn't have done it if I'd
know you were watching!"

Good thing he let you off, though - especially since 11 mph over is practically a requirement these days...

Congratulations!

3. Well..
I wasn't going to lie. I sped, I deserved a ticket if I got one! I know most people don't think that way, but hell! You get what you deserve.

5. You're probably right - a 'no BS' approach to people who hear a lot of
transparent BS certainly can't hurt, and may help at times...

2. In case you hadn't noticed, I ride a bicycle
I'm capable of exceeding the speed limits on some streets but the cops don't care if I do

4. Well, I'm a black guy. I'm sure that they would have given me a ticket
Like the two I got in Virginia in the space of a year.

BTW, I beat them both.

7. i actually DID get a speeding ticket a couple weeks ago...68 in a 55.
i'll take my chances and go to court- 4 out of the 5 times i've done it, the cop doesn't show up and the ticket is dismissed.
worse case scenario- the cop is there, and i ask for supervision and half to pay the fine.

8. I stop myself from speeding
by remembering that upwards of $175 is better in my pocket than theirs.

9. Keep myself from speeding?? HA!!
First, I drive a car that doesn't (to the unaware) look like anything that would be speeding regularly. Second, I pay very close attention to my surroundings and traffic in front of, behind, and coming towards me. Third, I've been damn lucky and really need to buy that Valentine.
