Poll question: Parents who feed thier children processed food should be brought up on child abuse charges.
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 03:56 PM by redqueen
Agree or disagree?

What other things do you think we should be able to press child abuse charges for?

If parents let their kids stay up late?

How about if they let them watch TV shows we don't like? It "rots your brain", after all.

C'mon... I know you loungers can think up some other "issues" to get all outragey about.

9. If a parent intentionally injected a child with cancer, would you find that abusive?
So what's the difference if it's done over the course of 10 or 20 years?

We'd get all righteous indignation if a parent refused medical treatment for a child (remember the faith-based family of a year or so ago?) - why not equal righteous indignation if the parents are intentionally making their kids sick?

Instead of bringing up child abuse charges, someone should educate parents who feed their kids processed foods the benefits of cooking with fresh ingredients and how inexpensive it can be.

Are we going to arrest people for feeding their kids the stuff the food bank gave them? 'Cause if we are, we might as well start ripping away every single poor child from every impoverished family in the country.

34. Any parent making below $75K a year should be prosecuted for child abuse.
Studies show that children from households below poverty are more likely to develop cancer, diabetes, and even blindness than children from more prosperous families. So somewhere around $75K gross family income should be the limit. Anything less is gross and willful endangerment, at the very least.

40. Takes a lot of money to raise children safely.
Children from higher-income families have fewer accidents and illnesses and a better chance of survival than from families who make less. We should really draw the line around $90K, but I was willing to sacrifice a few children for the sake of fairness to the layabout parents who make less. After all, for some of them it really isn't their fault--although why children should have to suffer for their parents' failings, I don't know.

But there are plenty of places we could cut back and manage to feed it healthy food. And as I said, we live in a very expensive area. The amount of money we make would go much further in most of the US. Definitely enough to comfortably raise a kid or two. I think having more than 2 or 3 kids is unethical, anyway.

It's a moot point anyway, because neither of us have any desire to have a kid.

42. Let's start way before then. Licence the parents to have sex.
Yep we all know where babies come from...

So just licence sex. Even more controversial: license solo-sex too. No wanking off without a licence.

That'll help solve some of the problems: people will be educated as to what to do when their offspring comes along 9 months later...

If you want to go the IVF route, you'll still need to be licensed.

:hide:

(serious point: sure we could eat better diets. But sometimes the kids won't eat anything but the processed foods. And what about infants and formula - that's "processed" for sure, some mothers can't breastfeed - even in the Olive Garden. Staying up late is definitely a problem plus watching too much TV - again a problem but definitely not child-abuse worthy.)

56. Almost all foods are processed.
Very few foods are eaten raw in their whole form, and of course once you get into any cooking, chopping, peeling, juicing, grinding, etc, then the resulting food is processed.

"Processed" isn't really a bad thing in and of itself. Many foods only become edible or are most nutritious after they are processed to some extent, or can be put to many more uses after some processing.

61. You have a good point there...
Once you do anything at all to a raw food to change its structure or state of rawness, technically, it's been processed.

Some foods we don't want to eat in their unprocessed state.

Who the hell wants to bite into raw chicken? :puke:

and even an apple...peel the skin off, and technically it's been processed.
