Shit. Barack Obama is President of the United States. |

I beg your indulgence, but I find myself sitting here with tears in my eyes. While the fact of the event was always evident to me, it didn't... hit me until now. I wish I could explain why. I can't articulate the sense of relief.

Every time I hear someone say "President Obama" on the news, it hits me. I still can't believe it.
Our troubles are far from over, but we can now believe that they will be.

I'm a Chicagoan. I've been aware of his existence for more than 10 years, in one way or another. When he ran for the US Senate in '04 I read his first book and loved it.
I still can't believe he's the President - even though I canvassed for him in WI and IN and I was there in Grant Park on election night and in DC for his inauguration. When I'm off in another room and I hear "the President" or "the White House" on TV I still cringe and growl until I remind myself: It's HIM now. It's BARACK. It's OK. And when it sinks in, I kind of melt a little.

I still get hit with one of those moments every so often. I shed a few tears on election night and inaugural day but now when it hits me I get the same feeling I get when my team scores a touchdown. I'm loving it.
