Can pizza sauce be used in place of tomato sauce? |
|
I'm making chili and am out of tomato sauce. Can it be done?

1. I am sure it can, but I wouldn't do it. They taste a lot different. |

13. Really depends on what the pizza sauce is seasoned with |
|
as Gormy said below, if it's got basil and hard cheese, then no.

6. I'd be a little leery of that.... |
|
The italian seasonings in pizza sauce would make for some odd-tasting chili....

Live dangerously! Unless you *have* to have your chili taste a certain way or you'll be unhappy, experiment!
What kind of spices do you usually put in your chili? Take into account what's in the pizza sauce, and adjust accordingly.

10. If it's seasoned with onion, garlic, oregano, and peppers, sure. |
|
Those are all natural additions to chili.
If it's got lots of basil flavor or hard cheese in it, it will change the taste of the chili.

14. I use vegetable juice |
|
gives it a fuller flavor. Pizza sauce? why not? If it doesn't work, don't make it again.

My pizza sauce and spaghetti sauce is identical. I make up a large batch and use it either way whenever I am ready. It works out great for me as I hate cooking, but have to do it.

I'll do anything in the kitchen. I don't always tell my aunt either. She's finicky and scrunches her nose up if I mention something different or improvisational when I need to in a pinch. So, I just do it and say nothing. She never knows the difference and it usually* works out great.
*Except the one and only time I tried to slow cook "Turtle in a Shell" (not cooking a real turtle, but that's what the dish was called...until I got a hold of it. Then it was called Toxic Rusty Sludge)
That took the inside coating of the pot off (looked like rusty food, yuk) and I had to throw the whole thing (including the pot) away as toxic. I'll never try cooking that again. :wow:

If you had to throw away the pot itself, it must have turned out nasty!

24. I'm not entirely sure, but I thought that the seasonings in pizza sauce are |
|
typically heavier than that of tomato sauce..and the tomato sauce I make probably consists of 1/3 Contadina tomato paste ( yeah...that's what I like to use )
