14. Dude, can we stay there when we come down to avoid paying Maine sales tax? |
|
Because nobody pays taxes with New Hampshire right there.
Congrats! Do you have room for a pony? Hope it has enough land around you to keep the neighbors away.

It took me a month to get used to the noise at night. There wasn't any!!! I found that I actually had trouble falling asleep in total silence.

I remember my senior year of high school, we had a ski trip to North Conway, NH. I think a few people skied, and I KNOW everyone drank.

25. Conway is dysfunctionally cool |
|
Lotsa drugs and alcohol, lotsa sobriety. Lotsa hikers and skiers, lotsa shoppers. Half mile off route 16, you're deep in the woods where a bear can chase you off his land. Everyone here knows everyone else. I love it here.

27. Wow...beautiful country |
|
Good for you. I remember my first trip to NH to go skiing @ Cranmore. Packed up the Ford Pinto and it was snowing like hell. We decided to take a "shortcut" via the Kankamagus Highway to get there quicker....Talk about a stupid decision. We made it...barely. That was 28 years ago. We ended up in buying a house on the coast of Maine in 1998. New England is beautiful. Once it's gets into your blood, ya just can't leave. Oh, and Cathedral Ledge...just stunning. Good luck to you.

28. Been there a few times. Nice story about one trip: |
|
We were camping outside of North Conway with another family. There was some kind of annual miles long yard sale going on along a two lane highway.
A little boy strayed into traffic and was hit bad. Our friends are both physicians and rushed to his aid. Performed first aid, stopped bleeding, immobilized him as best they could, and got him more-or-less stabilized until the ambulance got there. He had two broken legs, a head injury, and a broken arm.
I couldn't see what exactly was happening because Miz t. and I were keeping our young daughter and their kids out of the way and away from the gore.
The next day we went by the hospital to see how he was doing. He was sleeping, but the doctors predicted a full recovery. A week later he was being released and his family contacted my friends. He wanted a chance to thank them for saving his life, so back to Conway they went. Good people, and still close friends.
Hope you big ol' house lives up to all your expectations. :-)

Musta taken him to Memorial Hosp...they're great for broken bones and car accident injuries, but you coud die from a urinary infection if you get treated there....local joke, but it's true.
