1. I hope we see some big revelations tonight
The time skipping was fun and seeing the back of the four toed statue briefly was cool, but it's time to get some questions answered again. I'm not too wild about the idea of most of the survivors being stuck in 1977 and Sun not flash forwarding doesn't sit well with me. It's time for another "OMG!" moment.

Hi,
I agree with you, I am getting a little impatient with the introduction of new characters *again* and I want some conclusions or important revelations. I am so screwed up on who is where and when it hurts what few brain cells I have left.

Peace

Getting all 6 seasons on dvd and watching it straight thru.

LOVE the show. I've been hooked since the pilot episode. I just hope that they give a good explanation for what was so special about Walt and that Penny and Desmond (my favorite couple on the show) live happily ever after.

63. I'm pretty sure Ben killed Penny
in the episode right before they got on the plane coming back Ben calls to say he'll meet them later and he's covered in blood. You can see the marina in the background and he swore to Widmore before that he would kill Penny as revenge for Alex. Plus it's the only way they can get Desmond to go back to the island (to kill Ben).

I like Penny/Desmond too but I think she's doomed. Still bitter about Charlie. :(

66. I'm afraid you may be right
I'm hoping Ben TRIED to go after Penny, and Desmond was able to stop him and beat the crap out of him, but your thought about it being a good way to get Desmond back to the island is a good one. I loved their reunion at the end of season 4, but at the same time I thought "Ummm... This may not be good this is happening now and I hope like hell it doesn't mean they're doomed...". My (so far) favorite Lost episode ever was "The Constant" last season. I couldn't believe how choked up I got over that one, both times I watched it. Actually, I've really liked all the episodes about Desmond.

I understand your feelings about Charlie. I was ticked that just when I was starting to like Anna Lucia, she got killed (THAT was a shock). I had always liked Libby (and still want to know why she was in the hospital with Hurley, and why she GAVE Desmond a boat) and was sorry to see her get killed also.

74. Yeah, I cried like a baby during "The Constant"
I wish they'd kept Ana Lucia since she was a good match for Sawyer. That was at least 20 times more interesting than Sawyer/Juliet.

And I was pissed about Libby too but they'll have to explain it eventually.

The good news is that people don't seem to stay dead on the island so anybody can come back. Maybe Desmond will bring Penny for some kind of resurrection? Or they can do some time travel cheat and bring them back together?

You only really appreciate the show if you rent the DVDs and go through an entire season in 4-5 sittings.

I finally watched the opening for this season on tv back in January. And I was like, what's all this commercial shit? Why do I have to wait a whole week to find out if Hurley & Sayid get back to the island?

I was also wandering why they haven't killed off Juliet yet. But that's just me.

Paula Malcomson played Trixie on Deadwood and the Other that Sun shot on LOST.

Robin Weigert played Calamity Jane on Deadwood and Juliet's sister on LOST.

Kim Dickins played Joanie Stubbs on Deadwood and Sawyer's baby-mama on LOST (and also Kate's friend).

Hi,

Did anyone see what book it was that young Ben handed Sayid?

Who the heck is the woman that "captured" Sayid and got him on the plane?

Has the torture/drug guy been seen previously in Lost that is?

64. as far as I know
1.) The book was by Carlos Castenada. I read Don Juan in college but all I remember was it was a kind of trippy spiritual journey that involved taking lots of mescaline. Very 70s.

2.) The woman is a new character. She says she was hired by the golfer Sayid assassinated a few episodes back (at Ben's request) so she probably works for Widmore but it's also possible Ben hired her to get Sayid on the plane and she's just a very good liar.

3.) Torture guy is new.

33. Young Ben question....
He walks into the jail area to talk to Sayid and his glasses are busted up. He says "I really hated him" when talking about his father. Hated? Past tense? Did I hear that correctly?

Did he possibly do something to his dad on this new timeline? I know Faraday said you couldn't change the past, but I'm starting to think the island isn't bound by traditional theories of time travel.

Edited on Wed Mar-25-09 11:16 PM by Withywindle
But much later. He was much older.

Did he create the diversion in this timeline with the flaming van? Was his dad in it?

I like Ben as a kid, but only because he looks like EEeeeevil Harry Potter.

Also, I'm starting to feel that my original Sawyer dislike was justified, this episode. (I'm sorry, but Sayid's my boy. Anyone who sells out him, Hurley, or Desmond gets on my shit list.) But I bet in a few more episodes they'll find a way to change my mind about that again.

The only real weakness in this show for me is my complete inability to care about which variation or combination of Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Juliette are pining for each other or fucking each other (unless it was Jack/Sawyer; that I'd watch), and all the episodes that focus on that soap opera are snoozeville.

39. That's right, Ben did kill his dad...
that was right before the purge though...I hope that doesn't mean the purge happens earlier this time around too (assuming Harry Potter Ben did indeed kill dad this time). It's an interesting idea that the same events could happen at a different time...never considered that before.

I feel the same way about the LOST men too btw. Do NOT hurt Sayid, Hurley, or Desmond and I'm happy. I like Sawyer better than La Fleur...funny nicknames and random screaming of "son of a bitch!" are far more fun than the Head of Security for the DI.

41. The whole "I know my purpose now." was very un-Sayid-like.
It seems like, in the mad dash to begin to tie up plot lines and cobble together an ending, the writers are making characters act contrary to the nature they've demonstrated to date.

Miles, a guy who until a couple of episodes ago seemed to barely hold any loyalty to anybody, decides he's going to live with the Dharma bums for three years instead of taking the sub off the island and living it up in the swingin' 70s.

Sayid, a man who until now had put very little stock in fate, sees the events leading up to tonight as some kind of grand plan.

And Jack, never one to just sit back and let somebody else make decisions about his future, just hangs back and let's Sawyer bumble his way through a crisis.

49. But Miles is a dedicated scientist and all about the island and time travel.
It would seem out of character to me for him to just take off to go party.

Also, it seemed to me that Sayid and Jack were swayed by the coincidences leading up to them all ending up on the same plane and back on the island... and that Jack felt partly responsible for what he thinks was Locke's suicide. I got the impression that the note humbled him quite a bit.

I thought Sawyer was doing pretty well actually.

54. Re:Miles Straume
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 11:00 AM by MilesColtrane
Do you remember the flashback in which Straume gained a woman's confidence that he could speak to her dead son and charged her 200 bucks for the privilege?
He went into her home and found a stash of money, which he took. He was "altruistic" enough to give her a hundred back from the newly found money, still walking away with a tidy sum.

Also, after he arrived with the scientific team on the island, he said at one point that he was only there for the money, implying that he was being paid to find Ben.
When the team actually found Ben, Miles demanded $3.2 million from him in exchange for telling his employers that he was dead.

Miles has demonstrated his thirst for cash over principle before. Living in the past with just a cursory knowledge of the outcome of a few events he could quickly amass a fortune.

There has been no reasonable explanation as to why he would stay with the Dharma-ites.

60. He's an admittedly minor character, so it's not that big of a deal.
And the writers may yet reveal some hidden motive for his playing Gilligan with the rest of them for three years, but this inexplicable change reinforces my suspicion that they are just making up stuff script to script without any kind of larger view of where this thing is heading.

61. I saw an interview with a couple of the writers...
and they said they always knew the basic arc... but they didn't know how long they'd have... so they have had to kind of draw some things out, and have been able to do things they didn't know they'd be able to do, at first.

I'm okay with it either way.

65. Yeah, you can tell they're pulling some things out of their asses
without thinking through the continuity for the entire series.

The worst example was Sayid and Shannon which totally undercut the whole plot line about Sayid and Nadya.

It's hard though to keep consistent motivations for thirty+ main characters (yet another reason why they need to stop introducing new people and start explaining some shit.)

67. People can change when confronted with unusual circumstances
Yes, Sayid's never placed much faith in fate; however, he has hated Ben Linus for a variety of reasons and for a very long time. In fact, he seems to view him as his nemesis.

So, this ordinarily very rational person ends up *traveling backwards in time 30 years* and being confronted with his nemesis as a small, trusting child. Do you really not think that would perhaps change a person's outlook on life and fate?

Also, as far as Miles is concerned, it's been more or less established that he's been on the Island before. Perhaps he's staying to meet/see his parents? Perhaps he's staying to meet himself and tell himself something? I don't find it odd at all that someone would want to stay on a magical Island that they have a special connection to.

44. Ah, but is young Ben dead?
Perhaps Juliet manages to save him. This may account for Ben's interest in Juliet when she arrives on the island in the 2000s. Remember that "you look just like her" line from a season ago? Look just like who? Herself, perhaps?

56. Burning question
So to speak. Did they have little hand-held tasers in 1977?

Then again, they have time travel stuff on the island, and sonic barriers, so...

62. First "gun" type Taser that fired electrodes towards the target was made in '74.
Electric cattle prods had been around since the '50s, so I'm guessing yes.

68. What the hell happened to Faraday?
There was a vague reference to him not being around, but I don't recall what happened.

69. I turned off Season 4...so completely ridiculous in every respect
Suspension of belief is one thing. Shutting my brain off entirely is something else.
