Ugh, water heater leaking water all over the garage floor. |
|
It's old enough that I was planning on replacing it within the next few months anyway, but now I guess I get to do it tomorrow.
So much for my plans for a nice lazy Sunday. Stupid water heater.

If you have the time, check with PSE or Seattle City Light...sometimes they have rebates that might save you a couple of bucks.
Good luck...been there, done that!

4. If possible, it would be a good time for one of those newer models |

that saves on water and energy. Mine old water heater died a few years ago and I didn't know about that option, otherwise I would have gotten it.

My house's plumbing isn't really set up in a way that those would work very well, and they tend to be a lot more involved to install. And, because you have to let water run through the system for awhile to heat up, they save on electricity, but are a bit more wasteful of water. At least, that was the case with the one that was in my parents' old house.
The new one I got is more thickly insulated, and has a better kw/h rating than the old one (especially considering that the old one wasn't running anywhere near peak efficiency anyway), and has some computerized temperature monitoring gadgets in it, so it should run less expensively than the old one.

They don't last as long as they used to. Not cheap either.

6. At least it's on the garage floor and not on the first floor of the house. |
|
If you have a finished basement that could be a real mess.

I'm so lucky my dad knows his way around installing them - the new heater, and assorted installation hardware was expensive enough.
