So, did "Warwhoop" Tumbril file his papers for the CA recall?
Obscure reference courtesy of Robert Heinlein's "Friday", set in a near future in which North America has balkanized; the California Confederation (including Ore. and Wash.) basically did just what it's doing now: elections every few weeks, with the candidates basically being just plain folks whose names got picked out of the phone book or something.

When Friday finally got to California (from the fascist Chicago Imperium, via British Canada!), the Confederation's duly elected leader was none other than Jack "Warwhoop" Tumbril, just your everyday, back-slapping kind of a guy.

Whithin minutes, Friday (a female secret agent with bio-enhancements) had saved him from an assassination attempt...
