3. Pffth! Yes it was GoG's concert.
Quite impressive actually. BTW, our daughter has been playing the violin for four years and takes private lessons.

GoG is the "concertmaster", i.e the lead violinist.

10. I'm glad your daughter's studying privately...
Is she enjoying it? PM me the name of her teacher...I probably know him/her.
Thanks for joining us! We're really not so elitist as some like to think!

2. Oh hell, we take Material Girl to "The Theatre" and that hasn't impacted on her too much.
I doubt you have done too much damage to your kid with this ONE trip, but do not let it continue--lest you permanently damage the poor kid's psyche.

____

On a personal note, earlier this year, Material Girl was assigned to do a report on Handel for music class. She came home and was kind of annoyed because she didn't think she'd ever even heard Handel. Hubby started laughing and sang a bit of the Hallelujah Chorus to her. Her eyes lit up because she REALLY enjoyed The Messiah when we saw it...

9. I took my son last month... and he loved it
It was an evening of Mozart's early symphonies. Tim had never been to symphony before, and of course Symphony Hall is a glorious venue.

I felt lucky to spend an evening out w/ my kid.

13. Symphony audiences hate me. I tend to hum and tap my feet.
I like to go to Andre Rieu concerts, because he encourages that sort of thing.

15. My parents used to take me to the symphony. I hated it. The only reason why
I went was because I got some free coke during intermission. Plus a friend of mine from school was also dragged there so we used to play during intermission.

16. Good for you!
When I was a kid we had season tickets to the Houston Symphony for 2 years; season tickets to Houston Grand Opera for 2 years.

I loved the symphony, I was first violin in my high school orchestra.

I didn't understand the opera. That was before they put the words up over the stage, as Surtitles.

They started putting up the words in English in about 1990. It opened up a whole world to me.

I took my kid to the opera when she was little. Hansel and Gretel at Christmas, Porgy and Bess, The Magic Flute, Turandot.
