Another nickname could be Lexi (a bit more feminine)

2. Hadn't thought of that. Maybe a bit too close to "sexy" for a baby but |
|
maybe helpful down the road...

21. I have a friend named Alexandra |
|
. . . and she is indeed known in the family as "Sexy Lexie." (She looks like Natalie Woods' sister, so it was inevitable.) I think there are worse things you could saddle a girl with--at least this comes with an ego boost. I hardly think it would crop up from birth, though, and IMHO, there are times in life when it's handy to have a gender-neutral nick. As a lawyer, my friend has slipped into situations where a woman wouldn't have necessarily been invited simply because she appeared in a list as "Alex." She also likes the ability to switch from a more tomboy mode to ultra feminine, just by the name she chooses to put on at the time.
I suppose I'm biased, but of the choices, this gets my vote. Of course, some of these are strangely old-fashioned, which would either make a girl despise her name for all time, or revel in the fact that she's not one of 20 Jennifers in her class.

|
I like Lucy better than Cindy however. I always think of Miss Honeychurch in "A Room with a View." Her name is Lucy and Miss Comfort often addresses her as "Lucia," which I also love...

|
And more than likely he would be called Sandy.

12. Daisy, because it's a family name. |
|
I think it's neat to be able to connect your name to others in the family. I have three male cousins with our grandfather's name and three female cousins with the same first and middle names (family names again.) My name has no reference to another person in the family but is based on an ethnic connection, which is a similar idea.
Excluding Daisy, I'd chose Lucinda just because it's a nice old name like Margaret but not quite as common.

13. My top two choices were Ashley and Kayla |
|
I had finally decided on Ashley about a month before she was born and after my first look at her I knew her name should be Kayla. So she's Kayla Ashley. And the name fits her to a tee. I'd say have your favorite in mind but be prepared to change your mind once you see her!

18. lol, the name I picked for our daughter was Kayla |
|
but my husband had picked another name, which would fit a child with dark hair. So, the deal was, if she had blond hair, she would be Kayla, and if she had dark hair, she would be the name my husband chose. She ended up with dark hair, and for the first two weeks of her life, I kept calling her Kayla. She still looks like a Kayla to me. :hi:

14. I have to go with Daisy |
|
That just sounds really appealing to me right now. It does have a little baggage, but nothing that can't be easily overcome.
My close second would be Maggie, but I'd be hyper-vigilant that no one ever call her Margie.

17. Daisy is "very" special in this family. |
|
No one has picked it yet, altho my daughter would have used it if she had had a girl.
I've noticed that it has some "cachet" among some very upper income folks, making me wonder if it is one of those names that pretty much goes away and then suddenly is "adopted" by chic people...
That's not the case here, however...
The only objection I hear to it is that it sounds like a dog's name.

25. "Daisy" reminds me of Daisy Buchanan and HAL |
|
While this shouldn't be the sole factor in your decision, imagine the look on her face when she's a toddler and you're all watching "2001: A Space Odyssey" and HAL starts singing.

It's a feminine name that wears well through the years. Too many names sound adorable on a five year old, but silly for a grandmother. Plus, many great nicknames:
Pearl (original meaning), Margo, Marjorie, Rita, Peg, Peggy, Gretchen, Megan, Meg.

28. I would go with Margaret. Daisy is a popular nickname for Margaret |
|
Daisy is often a nickname for Margaret, because in France, the flower is called a marguerite.
Just my humble opinion of course, but to me "Daisy" seems to cutesy to put on a birth certificate. Go with Margaret, and she can be either Maggie or Daisy. :hi:

29. Except that it is the name of a family member and she was so named because it was her |
|
mother's name who died giving birth to her. That is why it is so special to this family...
But thanks for the reminder of the Margaret connection. I think of Margaret as separate and because we love Maggie as a nickname. Of course, I've found out that Maggie is a popular female dog's name currently...

32. Oh, I love special connections like that. |
|
My Grandmother had a twin sister who died while giving birth to her son. Grandma named my mom in her memory. Even though my mom hated her name, Mildred, it has a great meaning ("mild strength") and I thought it was so cool that Grandma honored her "Twinny" in this way.
And I understand the concern about Maggie being a popular dog name. :hi:

39. "Margaret" offers a host of nicknames |
|
In case she decides to go with something else: Marge, Maggie, Greta, Margie, Peggy and Polly (how the hell they got the last too from "Margaret" will always be a mystery to me). It's a solid, old-fashioned woman's name, and unlikely to get either overly trendy or sound out-dated. That would be my choice.

other nicknames are Margy, Margot, Peggy
LOL she has sometimes been called "MargyRat' by her dad and I sometimes call her Marguerite or Margarita
Her grandfather called her MaggieSue.
Margaret is a great first name because so many other names work well with it as a middle name.
on edit: Margaret means 'daisy'. There is a strain of daisy called Marguerite.
