Anyone seen the movie "The Wedding Date"? Why don't these two women |
|
who supposedly grew up in England, have British accents? I hate movies that have that kind of thing going on. It distracts me from what I'm supposed to be watching.

1. Is that the Pretty Woman-in-reverse movie? |
|
nothing made sense in that. I think their mother is supposed to American, not that that would prevent them from having accents if they grew up there. The whole thing was bad IMO.

2. Yeah, that's the one. Their mother was American, |
|
but it's pretty clear that they were supposed to have grown up in the UK. They kept talking about having been in school with all these people, sharing all these memories. I've known lots of children of immigrants and ex-pats, and the kids grow up with the local accent, no matter how the parents speak. One of my seminary profs was Australian, and would talk about how it pained him to hear his 4 daughters speak "Yank" English.
Yeah, not a great movie. Nice way to pass a Sunday afternoon, though. Except for that language thing. And the plot. And, well, I didn't have anything else to do.

4. True. And it was interesting to watch 'em playing Rounders, |
|
which I'd never actually seen played before.
And yeah, the scenery was very nice.

5. Why did Alicia Silverstone not have a British accent in "Batman & Robin"? |
|
Why didn't Tommy Cruise have a German accent in "Valkyrie" when some supporting actors did?
Partly because, regardless of money they bring in, they are just not good real actors.
Even an obviously fake accent is better than not bothering to attempt one...

6. Can't agree with you on a fake accent being better than |
|
not bothering to try. Mel Gibson in Braveheart, for example. I was doubled over with laughter during that. That was so bad!!!!
