The beagle just ate a whole box of Poptarts.
A conference committee is using our building for a meeting today and tomorrow morning, and a friend who's on the committee is staying with us tonight. So, he stopped to drop off his belongings before heading to the church for his meeting. For some reason, he brought a box of poptarts (I have food), he left them somewhere where the beagle found them. She devoured the whole box while I was in the shower. 6 poptarts (or is it 8?) at 200 calories a piece. If we walked continuously all day--and all day tomorrow--I don't think we'd walk off all those calories.

BEAGLES!!!!!! :banghead:

5. My Grandparents used to have a Beagle
one day when they were fishing in a stream, they turned their backs on their lines. The beagle went after the bait (marshmallows)and swallowed some hooks. They had to rush to the vet and get it taken care of. She was fine though, her name was Cricket. :-)

7. That's okay. My dog ate an entire box of pasta once.
The uncooked kind (I believe it was rigatoni). She must have found it satisfyingly crunchy. I was afraid to give her any water for fear she'd blow up like the Hindenburg. The cat finds it amusing to knock various non-doggy food items on the floor to see if there's anything the dog won't eat. She hasn't found anything that qualifies yet.

9. I was hosting a party at my Parent's house and house/dog sitting
at the same time. I wanted to keep the dogs outside but my guests insisted that they be in with us.

Anyway, my ex-foster daughter spent a good portion of the morning making breakfast burritos for everyone. She turned her back on the platter for a couple of minutes and those three dogs ate every last shred of cheese of those breakfast burritos. We got stuck eating cold cereal that morning.

10. LOL!! Blowing up like the Hindenburg!
My cat, Leon, only once tossed anything off a counter to her, that I know of. The beag is allergic to eggs, bit would love to be able to eat them. Years ago, I caught Leon pushing some egg shells off the counter to her while my back was turned making an omelet. They're a team!

35. That's actually pretty accurate.
Dogs have very few taste buds (at least compared to humans). If it smells like food to them, they will eat it.
I'm glad my dogs don't eat poop, but they will eat almost anything else.

16. I keep hearing that chocolate is poisonous to dogs
But the number of dogs I know that have gotten into it and survived is amazing. One friend's pooch ate a huge bag of Hershey's Kisses. He seemed none the worse for it, though he did poop small pieces of foil for days. That can't have been comfortable.

19. The higher the percentage of cacao, the harder on a dog's kidneys.
Milk chocolate won't do much harm. Last Christmas, a cousin gave me some chocolate that was 80% cacao. I didn't even bring it into the house. It stayed in a drawer in my office, safely away from the beagle.

Baker's chocolate is the worst, really dangerous for dogs.

17. I had a Husky mix several years ago that would eat anyting she could reach.
She even ate an entire tube of Bengay, plastic and all. She jumped up onto the bathroom sink and pulled it out of the medicine cabinet while i was in the shower. I rushed her to the vet, I mean - Bengay cannot be all that good for you! They kept her over night until she "passed" the plastic from the tube. The vet was surprised she continued to eat it after the first taste. I think her tongue was numb. I came out of the shower and she just sat there looking at me and licking her chops. I could tell by the Bengay breath!

Our late dog Sheena ate 3 pounds of homemade lasagna off the kitchen table while we were out back thanking our neighbor for making it for us.
She later ate a 5 pound box of Christmas mixed chocolate candy - both trays.

Very kind of you to leave such treats for your dog.
Did she open the box and the packages too?
I'm always interested in how they approach packaging.

For Poptarts into a dog's stomach later yields popFarts. Really nasty smelling ones.

33. Ah, the gluttonous Beagle
I miss my Beagle.

My female Boxer, Dixie, once ate an entire dark chocolate cake with deep fudge frosting. My husband had actually made it from scratch for my birthday. He left it on the table when he took the trash out and when he came in, all that was left was the empty plate on the floor with Dixie serenely licking her chops.

Needless to say, we kinda freaked since dogs are not supposed to eat chocolate. She never even burped. :eyes:

Maybe she was part Beagle.

40. We have had a 13 in beagle
who is 7 months old for three weeks and just adopted her. I have a 6 month old King Shepherd and I swear that beagle makes the shepherd seem like an angel. For such a little thing she gets into EVERYTHING. A nonstop ball of energy. I really did not need two puppies right now but hubby fell in love with her. I never in a million years thought I would end up with 4 dogs at one time esp with all the other fur and feathers we have.

43. Yep, they can be a little hyper.
The main thing to know when living with a beagle is KEEP FOOD OUT OF REACH!!! And by food I mean anything you consider edible plus cat poop. And when she does something that pisses you off, DO NOT LOOK AT THE EYES!!! It is impossible to stay angry when making eye contact with a beagle. They know this and use this superpower to completely disarm their human hosts. DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT!!

Enjoy the beag! I'm on my second now. They're special critters!

46. I had a greyhound who
once ate an entire package of Oreos - the double-stuffed variety. My husband had opened the package earlier that evening and had 2 or 3. I went downstairs about 10:30 pm to put the dogs out one last time and found the now empty package on kitchen floor. The greyhound was trying to look not guilty but the crumbs on his muzzle were a dead giveaway. Not to mention that the other dogs had been upstairs with me the whole evening. I was really concerned that he was going to get sick - not from the chocolate since there isn't enough real chocolate in Oreos to hurt a flea - but from all the filling. It never even phased him.
