I switched to that other freebie program to view them when I have to, but still, they are a PITA to deal with.

I found what I have been searching for - a way to edit PDF files using http://pdfvue.com - and it's free.

Especially since I like to play Pen and paper RPGs. It's so much nicer to bring a laptop loaded with all my rulebooks in .pdf format (Purchased legally over the internet, of course. What, did you think I was the kind of cheap bastard that would go and download pirated copies?) rather than lug 12 metric fucktons of hard copy books around.

(This is NOT a "get a Mac" post.)
The Mac's "Preview" program is far better than Adobe Reader, and actually makes the process bearable. Being able to search for specific things in documents is a good thing, so the format itself isn't completely useless.
I hate that it's still a proprietary format, and I wish there was a similarly ubiquitous open-source alternative, but I say that about Microsoft Word/WordPerfect, too.

15. I agree it's not that great for text documents |
|
but it's great for sending engineering drawings, especially when you don't want to send a dwg or shp file. Although shp files (used in GIS) are the most compact for the amount of data they contain :)

...I've even got the "PDF Download" extension installed and it STILL locks up or crashes when attempting to handle the majority of browser-based PDFs.
If I know that I will be accessing PDF content, I either use IE or left-click and download from Firefox.
