Something like a combination magnifying loupe and a safety face shield.
I need to find one. Need to see and need to protect my face and eyes from flying flakes of glass and metal.
Anybody here have any idea where to look for such a thing.
Or whether such a contraption even exists?...........

1. Don't exist AFAIK, you need to use a magnifier with a face shield. |
|
I'd look at the different dentist's magnifiers for one eye (I don't think your work is close enough for a jewelers' eyepiece) and wear a face shield over the whole face and eye piece. Alternatively, you wear the shield and use a magnifier outside the shield, closer to the work, but it sounds like the work you do would pit the lens in no time at all.

I wear glasses and use a headband magnifier that I can raise and lower as needed. Focal length of about a foot or so. I don't think it is possible to wear a face shield over it. Or vice versa. Not possible to use a handheld or table magnifier. My tasks requires the use of both hands and either power tools or open flame. I would use a jewelers eye loupe but the focal length is too short - something like 4 to 5 inches. Somebody should invent one of these things.
Thanks anyway.

5. A fresnel lens maybe, with tempered glass on the side away from the face. |
|
You'd have to make it your self, of course, but I can imagine it being done.

I think you want one of these. http://www.mcmaster.com/#magnifiers/=18hiqn scroll down to see headband flip up magnifiers. You may also want a face shield. http://www.mcmaster.com/#safety-glasses-and-face-shields/=18hkleSorry the links don't work. You can go to the homepage and search for both items.

4. It doesn't appear to me that |
|
it is possible to wear the headband magnifier at the same time as the face shield.
Thanks for the links though. Quite useful.

7. Are you handy? I think the face shield could be attached |
|
to the magnifiers, eliminating the headband on the visor. Just a thought.
