March 31st sucks balls. Our family hates that date and I need hugs |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 11:00 PM by greenbriar
my family was the type to never go to the doctor unless we were bleeding or not breathing.
On December 31st 1996 my father was diagnosed with Leukemia (actually meylofibrosis) and died March 31st 1997 3 months to the date he was given his death sentence.
had he gone for regular check ups, they might have caught it early enough to do something.
He worked all his life making BeechCraft airplanes...glass and plastics probably where it happened but we will never know.
Please if you can get routine check ups. It may save your life.
on a weird note, Hubby's grandfather died on March 31 1995 and my Grandmother died March 31st 1988
Dad March 31 1997
Needless to say, March 31 is not a day we like in our family

2. I'm so sorry for your loss. |
|
I hope I'm not out of line in asking, but I've been reading alot about diet sodas with aspartame. Could that possibly have played a role?
I ask for personal reasons as well. I had an electrocardiogram last year, and everything was said to be normal, and my doc tells me I need to lose some weight, but that I seem fine by all the tests. Still I have moments when my heart seems to beat out of control. Scares me.
I drink and have smoked ciggs off and on (pot too).
The older I get, the less faith I put in medical professionals.
I truly am sorry for your loss.
Please ignore this post if it offends you in any way.

4. thank you and there is NO offending |

dad never drank diet drinks
never smoked that I know of and rarely drank maybe less than 30 drinks all his 65 years
he worked in the glass plastics shop of an aircraft manufacturing plant
pretty much decided it came from that

5. My thoughts are with you. |
|
Seems so easy to say on a message board, but they really are.
We all enter. We all exit.
And I believe with all my heart we reunite on the other side.
Love across the tubes to you friend.

I miss him sooo much and would just love to feel his arms around me
just to hear his voice.
I know he would also be so proud if he could watch my daughter walk across that graduation stage in May

7. Both of my parents passed suddenly, one from a heart attack, one from a stroke. |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 11:07 PM by Skip Intro
They were here one day, gone the next.
Such an empty space in my life now.
I think I know how you feel.
I invited my mom over to see the house I had just bought, was supposed to come to her and pick her up to bring her over one day, had to push it back a day, and got a call at work that day that she was in the hospital, near death. She never saw my house, and I never called to tell her I was putting it off for a day. And I never got a chance to apologize for that.
She died in 2006.
So many Christmases and holiday events she's not at now.
I know how you feel.
But I kissed her forehead before she left completely, and told her I'd see her again. And I believe I will.
It's hard, man.

8. there are 6 of us kids and we were ALL at his hospital bedside |
|
when he passed.
My husband was on the way from out of town and his missed daddy's death by about an hour.
I had to be the strong one telling them no we didn't want an autopsy, what funeral home to call ect
until hubby showed up, then I broke down and fell apart.
Our mom just about passed out when daddy's took his last breath and we thought we would lose her too on that very day.
it was the most horrible day ever.
My one sister's anniversary is April 1st and another is April 3rd so we had the funeral on April 4th

9. And it never really leaves you, does it? |
|
How do you handle something like that?
When everything else, all your other worries and fears just fall away because this is the hardest thing ever. I had to leave the room before my mom took her last breath, after the pulled the tube. I couldn't take it. I felt her pass through me as she left, tho, I think, sitting in the hallway just down from her room.
God, my friend. All you can really do is remember their love for you and your love for them, and keep that somehow real and fresh, and move on. That's all we can do.

11. Remember his love for you. |
|
And know that it was unconditional.
As is your love for him.
On some level, maybe on the most important level, he's still with you.
He would want nothing but comfort for you now.
You must know that.
I don't know what else to say.

My daughter, 1st and only grandchild for 13 yrs, graduated a year after my mom's death.I had a few rough years with her and held my breath junior year. I wish my mom could see how it turned out. What an angel now, off to college, stays and hangs with me on the weekends calls everyday. What I wouldn't give. My mom was devoted to her. I burst into tears at Graduation, her 18 b-day party, the day we dropped her off at college, all because I wished my mom could be there. One of the last connections we had was Obama, I called her in 04 to tell her to watch this guy at convention. Funny thing is the day her obituary ran Obama was on the cover announcing his intent to run. Needless to say along with everyone else I burst into tears when he won primary, and presidency, and when i went to see him in Madison, because of that connection.Imagining how I would be calling her to discuss.
Sorry for the rambling, I miss her.

25. At first, rounds of inpatient chemo |
|
followed by a stem-cell transplant from an unrelated donor in Dec. 2007. They thought that the transplant would be my best chance of total cure, though the chemo did put me in remission. It "took" and I am doin great, knock wood! Just a few minor side effects from the treatment.
I'm so sorry they seemed to give up on your dad. I don't know his type of leukemia or level of progression or what, if anything, could have been done. It sucks when you look back and wonder about such things. I'm sure you did the best you could. We always question ourselves and wish we could go back and make everything right. But many things are going to happen no matter what.
