|
was a truck driver for many years. If I could contact him, I am sure he would have many stories of truck stops.

6. I forget the name of it, but it was a tiny little truckstop in the woods |
|
in little rock ark. I was driving over the road and it was friday afternoon. So that mean no loads until monday morning. The truck stop had a greasy spoon diner, fuel and showers (barely) The owners ran the grill, their children waited on tables and the younger children ran around barefooted playing.
One of the owners daughters came up to me and asked if I wanted to go out that friday night. I said, "sure"! The bar had a live band and one corner had an american flag and the other corner had a confederate flag. Pretty wild. I danced, drank, and had a good time. Spent saturday nursing my hangover, spent sunday playing with the kids, and monday I was gone. Never been back since.
I loved the south, that was my favorite place to drive. :-)

21. Yep. If they don't have it, you don't need it. |
|
My personal favorite for decent food is the AC&T in Hagerstown, MD at the Halfway Blvd. exit on 81, first exit north of 70.
They have the absolute best fried chicken on the planet. If they could just bottle the smell of that chicken frying and sell it, they'd make a fortune.
The sausage gravy and biscuits (I know, I know) are the best that I've ever eaten.
Don't make the mistake and order two biscuits, as I did the first time. Those damn things are as big as your fist, and then they ladle a quart of gravy with big chunks of breakfast sausage over them.

17. In the early seventies, driving cross-country, |
|
we came up on HUGH truck stop outside Grand Island, NE. Looked like hundreds of trucks parked there. Inside, it was the first time I ever saw showers for truckers.
And I still remember the chicken-fried steak I had. It was phenomenal. Banana creme pie for dessert - they did their own baking, which still astonishes me.
It's probably gone now, morphed into some kind of corporate entity, utterly without character.
But I have my memories ................. :)

between Chicago and Ohio. Most of it was completely unremarkable, but the ladies restroom was so lavishly beautiful my friend dubbed it the TajmaToilet.
