When a cat eats grass, it's a sign of rain. It never fails! I'm not sure what the reason is, and it's not an East Coast thing either.
I was living in California during a drought when I saw a cat eating grass. I informed my neighbors that it would soon rain, and they scoffed. Sure enough, there was a downpour within 24 hours.
