My hot water heater just blew up |
|
And emptied all it's contents into a carpeted bedroom and family room. This royally sucks. Insurance company sent out a water disaster cleanup crew. It's gonna be a long fucking night.

I've had that happen before but it didn't involve carpeted floors.

3. Happened at Casa SeattleGirl last week. |
|
No soaked carpets, though; just a very wet concrete floor.
It was replaced the next day, but what a mess in the meantime.

2. Are they going to send out a plumber too, or do you have to install it yourself? |
|
If the latter, PM me tonight, and tomorrow morning before I go to school I will post the instructions for installing a water heater.

5. My neighbor has a friend who will put it in |
|
Neighbor used to work in building houses and knows someone who can put one in. But I'm gonna ask the insurance company if they have someone and if they will cover it just to cover my bases. Never had this happen before but it looks like the disaster guys who are here will bill State Farm for tonight's work so at least I don't have to pay out of pocket at all tonite. That was my big concern.

7. I walked out on my front porch and saw a wet driveway |

Thought someone had overwatered. Then I saw it was coming from under the gararge door. Opened the door and there was a waterfall coming from the water heater. Then I went into the downstairs door to the family area. What a frigging mess.

I've had that happen, but fortunately, the utility room wasn't carpeted. Took us forever to get rid of the moldy smell, though. A shop vac helps.

Savable. Well one of my long term wishes was getting hardwood floors in those two rooms....this is just NOT how I planned to go about it. Insurance will cut me a check for carpet replacement and I can put it towards the hardwood I guess

11. Bamboo is the way to go |
|
Cheaper, harder, more stable, looks better, environmentally friendly. There's not really any down side.

I can't wait to get my bamboo floors in. We've decided that all remodeling in the house is going to be green.

16. Common ground is a wonderful thing |

I love my bamboo floors. It's one of the few choices I've made in my life that I have absolutely no regrets.
Being green is just part of the benefit though. It really is just a superior material for a lot of other reasons.

Doggie accidents are a common occurrance. I've had no problems whatsoever. Go with the factory finish which is far superior to any finish that can be applied after installation.

12. Seriously, check out Bamboo |
|
That's what we're putting in. It's way sturdier than hardwood and it looks really nice. We're putting in Plyboo. Lucky for us, we live close enough to their warehouse to buy it direct and can get it for about $4/sq ft.

10. With water heaters, it's not if they are going to blow up.... |
|
It's simply a matter of when. As I'm sure you know, install a tray and drain under your new one. That's what mine has.
