I'm in Iowa, having trouble finding unsecured wi-fi networks |
|
to mooch off of. Someone explain to me why people who don't lock their doors do secure their routers!! I'm at the McDonald's in Webster City, right now, nursing a coke for all it's worth.
I'm staying with a friend who had the cable company set up her PC and router, etc. She can't remember the key for using her signal "if there really is such a thing."
So, if you have something important to say to me, now's your chance!
It is nice to be in state where everyone can get married, though. Even if they are careful with their damn wi-fi!

1. Try food places or coffee shops |
|
Panera, Country Kitchen, Perkins or smaller coffee shops seem to have wi-fi. Also if you're really in need the local Holiday Inns or Comfort Inns have free guest wi-fi that you can connect to sitting in the parking lot.
Welcome to Iowa BTW - glad you're here!! :hi:

2. There's a mighty impressive dearth of Panera or Perkins in Eagle Grove, |
|
which is where I'm actually staying. There is a coffee shop that might have access, though.

4. Because the people doing the hacking probably don't live right next door to you |
|
Someone from California or Michigan or Delaware aren't just going to drive down to your house, break into it and drive home.
Perhaps if you know of a neighbor who has a wireless account setup you might ask them if you could use their network.

5. Ask DS1. He can tell you how to retrieve the code from the friend's computer. |
|
I used to know, but don't anymore.

...then lose my certification and probably go to jail.
I don't Think it's a crime to share a signal (I think ??) but it IS a crime to break-in to a persons router that's been secured. :)

8. I'm sure I don't have the first clue as to how to break into a router |
|
that has security enabled. So, no risk of me breaking that law!

7. Out in the sticks it's anyone's guess. |
|
But all the state rest areas have free Wifi in Iowa. Truck stops should have it. Some hotels will still have unsecured wifi.
