How come when people hear voices that aren't really there, the voices are always |
|
saying mean, hateful things (at least in every case I've ever heard of)? Why can't they say nice things?

2. I once knew a woman who heard voices, and she said there were both good and bad voices. |
|
She'd had some kind of therapy that trained her to ignore the voices, but she admitted still listening to the good ones. She said sometimes the voices even had conversations with each other, and she felt like she was eavesdropping. She attended a support group once a week to keep her "ignoring" skills honed.

4. That's nothing a decent anti-psychotic med won't fix |
|
I was once in the psych ward with a woman who heard voices that told her she was the virgin Mary. She didn't believe them at first, but the voices got so insistent that she started to believe them.

3. There are good voices. They just don't write stories |
|
about the kid who listened to the voice saying "Clean up your room."

10. I know someone who set fire to a house, then put the fire out. |
|
He heard voices (though he says they aren't exactly voices, more like uncontrollable impulses) to set the house on fire to burn up someone in the house, then as soon as he did, he was told to put the fire out. He did both, and no harm was done.
Hell of sickness, isn't it? Can't even trust your own brain.

12. I don't know how people deal - although some folks are taught to converse |
|
with the voices, rather than simply ignore them...

9. actually, I've seen folks having conversations with themselves on the bus |
|
that would have made sense if someone had been sitting with them...
And we don't call folks "crazies."

15. I find it offensive also... |
|
just another way to perpetuate the stigma that will never go away.
Then again, I'm finding that DU is no different than the general population.
I hope you are well.

7. Nobody pays much attention to the people who hear nice voices. |
|
I've crossed paths with a few people who walk along with a smile chatting with themselves.

14. you are only in trouble when |
|
the voices answer themselves. Years ago when I worked in a mental Institution we had patients who would talk to themselves using "different" voices--kinda like Sybil
