Anybody have flu related school closures near them? |
|
This morning I heard that a local HS (Rockville HS for the locals) was closed indefinitely on advice from the CDC. Apparantly its one active, confirmed case. I've just curious how many people are affected by this. Also I found out that one of our company employees that works in Wilmington, DE is being tested for possible infection. I'm wondering how I can blame this on LynneSin...:hide:

Ft Worth has shut down its district and Dallas is now under pressure to do same. They are still debating what to do. Dallas is a huge school district and I can't imagine what that would be like. I am not saying they shouldn't do it, but I think they are smart to wait a bit.

11. The whole district? Wow. |
|
I can't imagine the chaos of that...I wonder if it was a local decision or if the CDC advised it...

18. pretty sure it was a local decision |

Ft Worth has less confirmed cases than Dallas and I guess they are being supercautious. City and district officials have been on the local news and elsewhere pleading with local employers to be understanding about their employees with kids and not punishing them because of the district's decision etc. No fun at all, I feel for the people in Tarrant County worried about caring for their kids and being fearful for their jobs because of the shutdown.

We just got our first confirmed cases in Nebraska yesterday. They said they don't see the need to schools now, but that parents should start considering what they'll do if school is closed for a week or more.
School closes on 6/3 here, so in another week or so, if closure is warranted, I'd think they'll just say "school's over -- see you next year".

No, we have by-far the most reported cases of any city in the US and we had the first ones in the US, but they're going to send those lil' bastards to school come hell or high-water, damn the rest of the NYC mass-transit riding public. It's amazing how many grippy 6-year-olds ride the subway unattended to school in the morning.
It seems like it should be an abuse/neglect issue to me.

They all start to look like kindergartners to you once you're past a certain age. For me, that age was 15. They're clearly elementary-school-aged so no older than 10-11 and probably not anything in a double-digit.
I was more concerned, rather than age, that people would pack their flu-ridden schoolchildren off on the subway in the middle of a pandemic, mild as it may be. (I was reading that this flu, in this form, unless it mutates, will likely be milder than the average flu.)

I have a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old - no way in HELL I would put either of them on the Philly rail system alone. :scared:

Young children riding the subway or Metro bus alone to school...FWIW, I think the Metro might be safer than walking or even riding the bus in parts of the city...
