Most of the people in my family are not related to me |
|
Does anyone else have a family like this? There have been a lot of divorces and remarriages in my family. Hence, a lot of people I think of as "family" are kind of hard to put a label on. One example: The kids of my step brothers and sisters -- and their kids. Amd then there are the kids from the first marriage of my step-brother's second wife. I sure 'nuff treat them as relatives in most ways. But really, we aren't related. Same is true for a lot of kids brought into the family by the spouses of cousins.
Here is another good example: I have an aunt who helped raise a step-son (the son of her husband and his first wife). Well, now my aunt's husband is dead and the step-son has a wife and child of his own. All are "family," but none are related to me.
I have no idea why I am bringing this up. It's just something I have been thinking about.

1. None of the people I consider "family" are related to me by blood. |

I have two sisters and one niece in blood. By marriage I have 2 stepbrothers, 2 stepsisters, and 3 step nieces/nephews. Lot of second marriages in my family.
