MEMORY TIME!!! what's your first memory?
my earliest memory is of my mother being pregnant with my little sister. i was three when she was born, so it's pretty hazy, but i do remember wondering if my sister was doing the same things as my mom, ie: laying on the couch, eating, etc. i also remember wondering if my sister had an alarm clock in the womb with her.

another of my earliest memories is climbing up onto the kitchen counter so i could get the flinstone chewable vitamins and eating all of the purple and pink ones. to this day those are my two favorite candy colors

:hi: odin :)

2. Standing in my crib looking out the second-story window at my
brother and sister playing in the back yard with the neighbor kids. It was a nice summer day, and I wanted so badly to be out there with them. My Mom and the neighbor lady came into the room, and the neighbor lady picked me up.

My Mom said that I was two years old at the time.

4. The earliest memory I can semi-definitively place
My mother was at least seven months pregnant with my sister, and she called me into her room because she'd dropped her hairbrush under the bed and couldn't easily crouch to get it. Doing the math, that would have made me about 2.75 years old.

I have another memory that's probably earlier, but I can't peg it to a time. My mother and I were on a bus, and some adult she knew said "hi" to me, and I hid behind her.

6. My two older cousins took me outside of our apartment building in Brooklyn

and we rolled a ball around on the sidewalk. It was cold and we were bundled up, but I apparently didn't care because when it came time to go in I was mad as 2 year old hell and crying.

7. Mom cut me kinda severely with a diaper pin.
Edited on Sun May-03-09 09:26 PM by Iggo
I say "kinda" 'cause it was on my big fat baby hip, so no-permanent-harm-no-foul. The shape of the scratch is still etched in my memory, if not my ass. Sort of softly jagged in one direction, then arrow straight after about a 100 degree turn. Couple of years ago I told my mom I remembered. She confirmed it. She actually still felt guilty about it. Poor woman...lol.

Aw, mom.

(ETA: I may be wrong about describing it as a "100 degree turn." What I mean to say is that the finished scratch, had it been two straight line segments, would've been an obtuse angle of about 100 degrees. But anyway, it hurted...lol.)

seeing my twin brother in his crib. I remember moving into my bedroom when I was three and thinking finally I get to be alone (I was a twin). I think all of these memories could be when I was three.

9. I need to start with the preface that my parents are fundies.
Okay.

I was just over two years old, and we were on an Atlantic City beach in the summertime. Year was 1971. Lots of hippies.

I remember managing to escape the beach blanket where my mother, grandmother, and baby brother were sitting, and toddling over to two hippies who were making out on their blanket. Both guy and girl had long, dark hair. He also had a beard. They also had a radio - you know, the kind with the dials on it. Oooooh - dials. I guess it looked like a big toy to me.

I got to their radio while they were making out. I started turning the dials and was fascinated with the sounds changing as I turned them. The couple thought I was cute, and were talking to me. Then I remember my mother SCREAMING at me, running over to me as if I was about to be beamed up by aliens. I remember the look of horror on her face that I was near these two hippies. I remember the girl saying "It's okay, lady". And I remember my mother scooping me up and running. She saw hippies as evil, dirty, drug-addicted losers.

I'll never forget it.

11. My dear fizzgig!
My earliest memory (and I have verified the details with my mom, who was there)...I was in my grandparents' house, crawling down a hall towards the living room. At the end of the hall was a door with glass panes and a cut glass doorknob. I tried to reach the doorknob but couldn't, and I started to cry. Someone came to the other side of the door for me.

I was about 18 months old...I walked late.

It's very vivid in my mind...

:hi:

12. November 1984
my very first memory (that I can pin a date to) was the 84 election. My dad was leaving the house and I asked where he was going. He said "to go vote." I asked what that meant and he explained it. I asked who he was voting for and he said Reagan. I didnt like the sound of that so I asked who the other guy was, he said Mondale. I told him "you should vote for him daddy!"

I was 3. True story :)

13. Standing in my crib. I had thrown my bottle out and mom came in
and picked it up and gave it to me. She was mad at me.

I remember looking out from my crib at the graveyard across the road. The mist rising from it was really spooky. I kept the blinds closed. I also remember a girl in a shawl looking down at me in the crib. It was probably my oldest sister. She always wore a Shawl. She died while I was still a baby. Family friends reported being visited by her a few minutes after her death.

14. Getting hit by a tree when I was in a tornado
I was about two years old, in my mom's arms. It was night and a big storm was blowing through. We were up north, in a remote area, that didn't have any nighttime radio broadcasts (this was in 1971, and not uncommon back then). We had no idea how severe the weather was.

I was in a tent with a bunch of other people, and a large tree got blown down on it. I got hit by a large branch, and got a concussion and fractured skull. A guy next to me broke an arm and a leg and several ribs. My mom broke her collarbone.

I spent the night in the hospital and remember getting x-rayed. Needless to say, I don't like tornadoes much anymore.

17. I have of lot of memories from the early 50s but
its kind of difficult to really say which was first. I remember my first dream (well, the first one I remember) it was of a bear and a turtle walking across a bridge. Actually, I think it was probably Yertle the Turtle from that old 1951 civil defense cartoon.

24. When I was 2. Just a flash of turquoise water, but it's at head level, and the wall is
crooked so I think I was leaning sideways.

My best guess is someone was floating me around a pool.
