With gratitude and due respect to midnight armadillo, who obviously has good taste and inspired this post.

Blue Oyster Cult comes in a close second, with Fleetwood Mac in hot pursuit.

7. Agree on the Kiss...
BOC is arguable. Fleetwood Mac...nope. Grew up going to sleep at night to Rumors. They're installed as deep in me as are the Moody Blues.

25. Funny that
I remember hearing the Rumours album often as a freshman in a college dormitory, and while the dorm experience was great, Rumours never appealed to me in any way.

But Moody Blues, they're another story. There are at least 4 different times in my life I associate with Tuesday Afternoon.

28. I was ten or eleven when I was listening to Rumors
On 8-Track. Played it at night as I was going to sleep.

I was introduced to the Moody Blues when I was very young. My dad says it probably has something to do with why I like classical instruments as much as I do.

29. I didn't realize I liked Moody Blues back in the '60s
I only knew song titles, like Tuesday Afternoon and Go Now. I would occasionally hear their songs on my little transistor radio, also as I was going to sleep. WWL in New Orleans was my favorite nighttime radio station.

12. Sure, but as I said in the other thread...
...their being overrated was the entire point.

Objection overruled.

23. Kiss, for sure. I don't even consider them a rock band, so it never even occurred to me
to put them on the list.

My bad.

Good suggestion.

3. Based on radio airplay multiplied by personal dislike, I'd have to say Bad Company.
They had some decent tunes, like "Good Lovin' Gone Bad," but at least among the "classic rock" set they pretty much define gruesomely overrated.

As for the actual choices, the Who and the VU may be somewhat overrated, but I challenge you to listen to the two-disc 'Live at Leeds' or the two self-titled VU albums, and then tell me these guys don't have any claim to greatness.

In the case of the Doors, I understand people's complaints about the necrophilic Morrison obsession, not to mention the Oliver Stone flick (which I actually liked), but I have all six of their albums in my collection and there's no way I could deny they were among the best of their era, if not all time.

And Clapton, I can understand why so many people hate him nowadays, but at one time he was called "God" for a good reason. And it's not just his guitar-playing - listen to that Derek and the Dominos LP, which was essentially a collaboration between him and Duane Allman, and see how good a songwriter he once was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgNYXZL2fB4

18. Bad Company and The Who decided to have a song named after the band.
That alone I find very annoying.

4. Eric Clapton?! WTF?
My stepfather played drums in a rock band for almost 30 years and he thinks Clapton is god...oh and he had the good fortune of actually personally meeting Cream. I think "tears in heaven" and " wonderful tonight" are two of the best songs ever...

Always bored me. Also to me Dave Grohl is a much better singer and songwriter than Kurt.

15. Never got it either
I went to a small show of about 400 people and stood there dumbfounded until Rockytop at the end. It was the most self indulgent load of shite I have ever heard. I am a big deadhead too but just didn't get this band at all.

19. Of these, the Doors. It was quite fortunate for them that Morrison died.
He was clearly completely out of ideas by the time he died. His death gave them an undeserved infusion of legitimacy.

20. Steely Dan
Coldplay is actually slightly worse, but they were already mentioned. And at least Steely Dan sucks because they're Steely Dan. Not because their singer thinks he's Bono and they steal Joe Satriani riffs.

That song's more overplayed than "Stairway to Heaven", "Free Bird" and "Layla" combined.
