1. Of those, I'm going with Lamb of God.
Because of that list, having made two polls tonight, they're the only band I've never heard of.

Saw them live in Myrtle Beach, at the House of Blues.

Kick ass shit!

And this one: wow!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPf8BR7YYkw

Pretty powerful stuff there. Lyrics:

We killed a lot of innocent civilians.
To us every civilian in Baghdad was a terrorist.
They said 'they are now in civilian clothes' that makes everybody free game,
But if they came within our perimeter, we lit 'em up.
And when we would pull the body out, and when we would search the car, we would find nothing.
This took place time and time again. No harm, no foul, that's OK, don't worry about it,

Because this is a new type of war, this is an eradication.

But there was NO way in hell I was going to listen to them. I'd rather dive crotch-first into a cactus.

4. Possessed.
Dead awesome thrash band who recorded their first album while still in high school. Disbanded after only three releases due to their singer being shot and paralyzed by a gang member. Vio-Lence, Celtic Frost and Nuclear Assault are quite underrated.

16. I actually listened to them the other day, and sadly I didn't feel it held up well.
It really, really sounded dated and average. Like a low budget early Exodus.

Vio-Lence, on the other hand, still kicks my ass though. Their first Cd is one of the finer thrash releases of it's day, once you get past Killian's singing style (which never bothered me, but my friends struggled at first).

32. Really? They have so many tasty riffs.
And they are so much fun to play. I love the muddy production of the older thrash records, the raw sound. They hold up quite well for me. Of course, I've never stopped listening to them. They've actually been playing some shows lately with Jeff singing in his wheelchair, I'm hoping they tour again, they sound great.

Yes, "Eternal Nightmare" is one of best Thrash releases ever. I never had a problem with Killian's vocals either, they just fit.

Cool to hear about them playing shows again, and that Jeff is singing even in the wheelchair. Got to love that. :)

18. Hard to say their underrated. All their CDs get awesome reviews.
they aren't huge in a popularity sense, but I find that a lot of people, even those outside of that kind of music, know who Opeth are and respect them. I just saw them mentioned in an interview with some guy in Oregon who does totally different music, and he cited them as one of the bands in today's music scene that is doing new things.

And now I think I'll thrown on My Arms, Your Hearse. :)

47. They provide me with everything I listen to music for.
They sound right to me no matter what kind of mood I'm in, something no other band can do. Others match certain moods perfectly, but Nomeansno matches any of them, at any time. A seriously great band, and their last CD was as kickass as anything put out in 2007, and puts bands half their age to shame.

48. I see so many bands that still cite Voivod as an influence.
Their newer stuff is still pretty good, but their 3 albums, Killing Technology, Dimension Hatross, and Nothingface are all masterpieces of progressive thrash.

I'm hoping to see them again on tour soon, this time with Blacky back on bass instead of Newstead.

22. Hmm...possibly Scar Symmetry or Threat Signal
Scar Symmetry is Swedish melodic death metal whose (now former) singer could sound like both death and Bon Jovi, along with increasingly progressive elements and guitarists with Allan Holdsworth free jazz-style phrasing. Thread Signal is Canada's apology for Nickelback, though instead of an apology, it's more like a kick in the balls. Sound like Meshuggah with Fear Factory style vocals.

I don't know if either of those are *most* underrated. That honor probably falls to some band playing in bars somewhere in Central Europe that no one's ever heard of whose album on last.fm has 36 views after six months, but even within metal, these two don't really get the recognition I think they deserve.

Edited on Tue May-12-09 11:08 PM by no name no slogan
The video for "Epic" was all over MTV in 1990. Hell, they played it at least hourly, if not more often. I remember you couldn't watch MTV for more than half an hour and that damn video was on, again. It even got played in heavy rotation that summer on mainstream radio. The Real Thing was nominated for a Grammy, and even went platinum in many countries. I'd hardly call that not widely known.

49. Angel Dust is a killer CD, but Introduce Yourself is still my fave.
The old singer hits me more, even though I'm a huge Patton fan and know he has ten times the voice that Mosley had. But there's something very sarcastic/tongue in cheek about Mosley's style that always hits me, and Introduce Yourself was parked in my tape player for months on end. The lyrics to The Crab Song still get me to this day. I want fluorescence indeed! :)

"You look beautiful today, where you goin? Oh really, don't come back. Stay out! Dear Esther, farewell. I was only kidding. Bitch. Come back, I didn't mean it. Said I was only kidding. Wait a minute. Only kidding. Come back! I didn't mean it! Oh well...

And after all the feelings go, I see I still love you so,
I just thought I'd let you know now that everything's okay,
And you are on your way back, back from where you came,"
She said with pain in her heart, it was there from the start.
Now I know why everything turns gray, but it's our own world we paint
And I want the brightest, I want fluorescence every day and night
For the rest of my life, open your eyes, won't you?
Can't you see you're so beautiful to me?

Won't go on, just can't go on like this...no more.
Don't look back as a matter of fact there's
A ten foot Jack wants to break your back
You stole his girl, you wrecked his world
Now it's your your head that he's gonna twirl
He won't think once, he won't think twice
Cause he knows just what he's gonna do tonight
He will commit a crime, a crime of love
And he won't be happy till he sees your blood

Looking back on when you left me
Standing in the rain
Don't look back as a matter of fact there's
A son of a bitch and he's digging a ditch
For you my friend, my lucky one
So grab your things it's time to run to the other side
Where love takes pride, and your souls
The only thing that stays alive
Ma maooba goo goo ga ga
Hey! Quit talkin that terminal jive!
Looking back on when you left me
Crying in pain
Said! Don't look back...<1st verse>
Looking back on when you left me
Standing in the rain, in-credible pain
I understand. You have to be your own person. Well that's ok with me.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! What?
Hurts, Hurts, Hurts, Like a like a motherfucher
Love. It kills. Oh man. Like a sonofabitch.
That feeling. It gets me. Way down there, inside me.
We're nothing deep down there where only bad things grow.

He does all the visual stuff for Neurosis, as well as the visuals Mastodon is using on their current tour. He did all but two of the vids on the Neurosis DVD A Sun That Never Sets.

And yes, Neurosis is a great band. :)
