Poll question: Vote For Your Favorite Pizza
I'm referring to the shape and thickness of the crust. Toppings are another story completely.

1. Chicago-style!
Any pizza that's not at least 3" deep isn't a pizza worth mentioning. :P

6. Thin crust is also my fav
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 04:00 PM by supernova
Stained Glass Pizza in Gaithersburg, MD used to have the best thin crust I ever ate. I like little dough and lots of toppings.

But I'll eat any pizza you put in front of me! :D

4. It's all good!
Pizza is one of my weaknesses. :9

Although, having visited Chicago, and had their pizza, I've developed a new fondness for it. Good thing I can get a reasonable facsimile down here in Texas.

9. Thin and greasy is where it's at!
it's the only pizza even worth eating, as far as I'm concerned. I grew up in Seattle, and when I was a kid, only Chicago-style was available here. I grew up not liking pizza. I was in New Jersey for a seminar when I was in my 20s, and while waiting for a flight in the airport, was starving. I went and got a slice of pizza (pizza by the slice was an exotic-enough idea to me). It was New York-style, paper thin, the size of a dinner plate, and gleaming with full-fat mozzarella. I've never looked back since.

Thankfully, there's now a couple places around here to get REAL pizza. Chicago-style pizza is BORING.

knew how to make pizza. Seriously, I'll have to try that place. Are you from there, or did you go to Luther?

For me it's Eduardo's in Chicago with their deep-dish spinach pizza.

21. I grew up there, my dad was campus pastor at Luther for about 20 years
and then he was an antique dealer after he retired from Luther, ran a little shop called The Emporium.
I was just there last weekend helping pack up some of his antiques from a consignment shop, and Mabe's is right across the street, so I ordered a half-baked to take home for supper, yummmm........
Are you a Luther grad?

Is brick oven a separate pizza category or can any crust be put in a brick oven and get that same crustiness?

28. Do I have a good recipe for Mexican Pizza!
I invented this recipe, and it's become a favorite of my dh, brother-in-law, and many friends.

http://busycooks.about.com/library/recipes/blmexpiz.htm

MEXICAN PIZZA

1 onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 16-oz. can refried beans
1 18-oz. bottle taco sauce
1 8-oz. can tomato sauce
1 Tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. cumin
2 cups soy protein crumbles
2 large boboli pizza crusts OR scratch crust, below
4 cups shredded cojack cheese

Saute onion and garlic in olive oil until tender. Add beans, taco sauce, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, and soy protein crumbles. Stir well, and heat until crumbles are softened.

Spread sauce evenly over both pizza crusts. Top with shredded cheese. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and begins to brown. Serves 10 to 12

For scratch pizza crust:

3 cups flour
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1-1/3 cups warm water
1/4 cup cornmeal

In large bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour, 1 cup cornmeal, the yeast and salt. Stir in vegetable oil and water and mix well. Add remaining flour and mix until a stiff dough forms. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top, and let rise for 1-1/2 hours, until doubled. Punch down. Divide dough into two balls. Grease two large cookie sheets with vegetable shortening, and dust each with 2 Tbsp. cornmeal. Roll out each ball on each cookie sheet until crust is 1/8" thick. Just cover the sheets, and don't worry about the crust being perfectly rectangle. As Peg Bracken says, "roll 'er out as far as she'll go!". Set aside while preparing sauce. When ready to bake, heat oven to 400 degrees. Bake crusts alone for 10 minutes. Then top and bake as directed above.

i love chicago style pizza. but i think my heart goes for sicilian style. there's bakery and pizzaria by the elementary school i went to, and we'd get pizza there for like halloween parties, and it is the best pizza ever. you can get a 3'0" X 2'-0" X 0'-5" pie for cheap. mmmm-mmmm
