Why are 99% of people dumber than dog poo ?
and why aren't the 1% of acceptable intelligence masters of the rest ?

2. Almost everyone thinks their part of the 1%
and very few people are willing to accept that they are in the lower 99%.

Even those who do know they are in the lower 99% are often unwilling to give in to the 1%.

In the US there is a strong anti-intellectualism streak. People are proud of being dumb and hate people who are "too smart."

7. +1
Pretty sure I'm not even in that top 1%. But that doesn't bother me. I am what I am. And I'm smart enough to do my work, which is all that really matters.

8. Amen--I have a cousin by marriage who seemed proud that she "hadn't read a book

since high school" (the 1960's in her case).

14. Depends what you mean by smart
Lots of the intelligentsia in universities etc... would consider themselves to be in that 1% but general consensus would probably disagree with that. I think I would too btw.

4. You forgot to mention that
99% of Americans don't even realize that they're not the center of the Universe and admitted to

be part of that 99% by assuming that this 99-1 ratio can be applied to the rest of the World

by omitting the word "American" in your affirmation that 99% of people are dumber than dog poo

therefore strongly suggesting by the apparent ignorance of that important distinction that you are an

unfortunate member of the 99 club.:P

Whoa, the sleeping pills just kicked-in.Can sombloody esplain what I just wrote to me ?

6. I imagine the 99%...
I imagine the 99% are the ones advertising to everyone that they're the 1%, while the *real* 1% say very little and complain even less.

9. Because intelligence is not the criteria for rule.
If you are really smart and have compassion you should be a leader.

If you are really smart and really bad should you be a leader?

Smart can be used to get leadership, but it is not the qualification in a successful society. Just being smart only shows you can succeed, being compassionate shows if that success will be good for the people a leader is responsible to serve.

11. Because Dogs are actually really smart...
I thought everyone knew that... I guess I am in that 1%...:P

But seriously now, Thomcat made a very good point above, there is a very strong anti-intellectualism belief in this country, people that seem to relish being dumb. Expecting them, and they are a majority, to engage their brains in a useful or meaningful way, is, well, dumb...
