My first rant about working retail... |
|
Ok, for the most part, not much pisses me off...yet. This surprises me greatly since I thought I would hate it (since I really did when I was a youngster). I can laugh off those of you who adamantly REFUSE to give me your zip code, even after I explain it is for demographic reasons only. "Dude, I don't have ESP. You paid in cash. I can't track you down." - no I don't say that. I don't care if it takes you 10 minutes to find your change or write out your check (the people behind you are another story). It doesn't bug me that you want to try to use 15 different coupons from three different stores to buy two items. Whatever...
But please, please, please CUT OUT YOUR DAMN COUPONS YOURSELF.
I can't tell you how annoying it is when they hand me the whole damn store flier and expect me to cut out the coupon while ringing up their purchase. Do they do this at the grocery store as well? Hand the cashier the Sunday paper and expect them to cut out all the coupons for them? It would never have crossed my mind to do this at a store, even before I worked at one. I cut the older folks some slack. And yes, I try to be mindful that others may have a physical reason for not cutting them out. But really, the other 95% of you are just rude!

1. They do it at the grocery store, yes ....... |
|
I know because I once handed a cashier the coupons I'd carefully trimmed, and she was so grateful. Then she told me that MOST PEOPLE just - as you said - handed her the whole page.
When I practiced law, our motto was "Stupidity's been very, very good to us."
Nothing ever changes ...................................

Wow, that is so beyond my way of thinking...I clip and sort all my coupons at home. I just thought that was normal!

30. Or the stores could just forego the concept of coupons |
|
and lower the prices on those items on certain days and everyone saves! :D
I do need to write a gripe-letter to CVS, however, about getting a printed receipt that is literally several feet long when I only bought four items (the rest of the printout was for coupons I will never use...)

3. Don't even get me started on how stupid people seem to be in a retail checkout. |
|
I think the folks at the registers are absolute saints. I'm in a line for 10 minutes, and I want to get out the claw hammer. The folks that deal with it for hours and hours every day...saints.

7. Yup, that is me...a perfect saint! |
|
LoL.
Meh. I think it's because unlike the people in line behind them, I'm in no rush to get anywhere at the moment. I've found that for the most part, people are really nice and appreciate a smile and a kind word. It's just that the people who like to shit on everyone they encounter during any given day are just so much stinkier. Heh. I still smile and wish them "a great day!" They don't know how to respond. Most times, the grumpiest person ends up saying it back to me.

32. There's a machine that lowers people's IQs 30 points whenever they queue at the registers |
|
There's no other explanation. People just go completely dumbass whenever they're lined up at the register. I especially like the fumblers who seem to forget that you will indeed need to pay for that purchase you are making, and wait until the last second to get out their cash/card/checkbook/chickens and goats/whatever. I hate shopping.

We don't have our own store fliers (or newspapers) in the store. I bet it would happen a lot more if we did.

I would imagine that I am, since they see how I interact with others. For years on one of the kitchen cupboards is the quote "treat others how you wish to be treated." I'm by no means "spiritual" by that is how I live my life.

not bad for a nice person like you. I didn't know you had it in you! I give it about a 7 on the TA Rant-O-Meter. I am sure with practice you can bring that score up. Now, we will put it to the voters. Be sure and dial and vote for your favortie Cashier, guys and gals! We just rate them. It is up to You rather or not your favorite will be back next week.

21. Additions; (grocery store cashier here) |

*READ the Coupon!!1!* Don't blame me because you grabbed the wrong product, the wrong size, or the wrong amount. I'm sorry you feel foolish for doing so, but honestly, the store is not arranged to purposely make you grab the wrong product and I derive no personal satisfaction or pleasure from sending you away unhappy and/or angry.
*Hang Up the Damn Cell Phone!!!1!*
Don't stand there yapping on your cellphone, haphazardly piling your merchandise on the belt, then wait until I have nearly finished bagging all your crap, uh, stuff in plastic bags (official store default if customer fails to express a preference) then disdainfully whine, "can I have the rest in paper?"
*OR*
alternate ending, after I have nearly finished putting your stuff in plastic, suddenly remember that you have your own bags and expect me to give you a bag credit and re-bag everything for you.
*OR*
wait until I have completed your transaction, then tell me that the cheese was buy one, get one free, or that the potatoes were on sale. I can't fix it after you are holding the receipt in your hand, you have to go to customer service. Sorry, that's just the way it is.

22. I thought retail was bad until I started waiting tables |
|
Because your wage depends on those assholes paying you (I make 2.13 an hour) Plus the pace is alot more hectic and I smell like food. If I have a slow day at a retail job I will get paid but if it is slow at a restaurant you wont.

FWIW, at one supermarket they not only cut out our coupons, they gave us the flyer at the checkout.....
(I used to be the flannel shirt guy at a local Army Navy store - best sale: Sold thermal undershirts to a group of Pagans MC moronic thugs and got a laugh out of them. Sold them a lot of fucking shirts, too.)

26. Years ago when I was farming |
|
I had to go to the tractor dealership for parts after a breakdown. There were other guys there stacked up about four deep in a rush for parts to get back in the field as well. Behind the counter was "Bob", a local character in his own right, who was alone manning the counter. He just stopped cold for a moment in the midst of the hulaballoo and grinned saying, "everybody's in a hurry but me. And I'm the only one that counts."

28. The other day I was in line at the grocery store... |
|
The person ahead of me had already had her stuff all completely rung up, when she decided she wanted a pack of cigarettes. So the bagger went to go get them and came back with the wrong brand. She asked him for the right brand, and the store did not carry that brand, so she proceeds to ask for yet a third brand of cigarettes. Meanwhile the line is backing up into the store... I really wanted to slap her.
