It feels a hell of a lot better, doesn't it? I used to drink, too, and I gave it up 4 months ago to go on a special diet. It's proven to be one of the best things I've ever done for my overall well-being. :thumbsup:

I got a DUI, quit for 7 weeks to prove to the world and the treatment center I knew I'd have to get an assessment at that I wasn't an alcoholic (all the while planning on drinking again once they pronounced me a non-drunk), then got the opposite assessment - they said I was alcohol-dependent. That set me on my heels and made me think, then I decided to check into treatment the next day, and since that point I've learned enough to realize that I am an alcoholic. Plus AA meetings are required as part of the treatment, and I've been going to about 3 times as many meetings as I am supposed to - just decided to jump in with both feet. The real test will probably come in 2 years after I'm done with treatment and the courts, and no longer have to get the AA slips signed. Although with the deferred prosecution it actually might take 5 years - I'm not really sure. But I really just want the sober lifestyle and so I don't think I'm gonna pay too much attention to what the courts want - just to what I need to do in terms of the program and my life.

30. I've been sober 20 years now.

I just surrendered and gave it up. Just got tired of loosing, getting in trouble, sick, etc. I haven't been to any AA meetings or anything. Just being honest with yourself is the only requirement. Have I ever been able to take just one drink and quit, the answer is no, maybe it is possible for one day but I will try it again the next day and fail.
