Can anyone recommend a decent (free) CD burning program? |
|
I recently bought a "new" computer (upgraded to Windows XP, finally), and my CD burning software won't work because it's only compatible with 98/ME.
So I found BurnAware Free, and it's been working just fine ... until this morning, when I wanted to copy a CD. BurnAware Free does not include this CD-to-CD copying feature.
It claims it does. The "help" section says to "click on the Copy Disc menu item in the BurnAware Welcome Screen," but no such function actually exists.
So I was about to go searching for one, and thought I'd check here first to see if anyone can recommend a decent, free program.

2. It appears the free version will not copy a CD |
|
I downloaded and installed DeepBurnerFree, and learned this from the help section:
"The function to copy a CD/DVD is available in the Pro version only."

3. Woops. Sorry for sending you down the wrong trail. |
|
It's been a long time since I did that and I forgot. I do most of my burning from stuff that's already on the computer.
I guess you saw that there is a workaround for this, but it requires you to find and install CD ripper. Easy enough to do, but there may be a do-it-all free program out there and I know that's what you're looking for.
Again, sorry for the bad advice. Feel bad about that.
Good luck.

6. Actually, your suggestion did help... |
|
...because it showed me that I probably won't find a free application that will let me copy a CD. (BurnAware Free was the third one I tried.)
The short-term solution is for me to haul the old Windows ME out of the corner and use it to make the copy I need, and the long-term solution is to pay for the software I need for my new machine.
Thanks! :hi:

7. Before you haul out the other box |
|
this might be worth checking out. From what I read, this seems like a possible solution. Unless I overlooked something again. :( http://download.cnet.com/Easy-DVD-Rip/3000-2140_4-10441877.html#userreview

... but you did state free...
Most linux distributions have CD burning programs as part of the package.
You could try ImgBurn - it's 100% free. Now it doesn't have a strict "copy" function but it's done by Reading a disk to an image file, and once that image file is on your hard drive you then Write it to a blank disk.
available online at www.imgburn.com
