I think I have a cross between a sprain and a broken ankle
I felt the bone in my ankle twisting yesterday, but I stopped before anything snapped. I had trouble walking yesterday, but I'm mostly better today. I do get the occasional shooting pain when I walk though.

1. What color is it?
Can you bear weight?

If you've decided not to see a doc, then rest, ice, elevate.

You should see a physician.

13. you left the C out of RICE
I find compression to be the most important step. Okay, except for the Rest part.

I have never seen a doctor for any of my four sprains. The first time I thought sure I had broken it. I was jumping into the TV pit and my foot landed halfway on a cushion. Crack sounded like a cap gun. I sorta figured though, if I could still walk on it, it probably was not broken.

... you NEED to see a doctor and get it x-rayed.

4. If the pain persists, or you have bruising, or if your foot is twisted in an odd way,
or there's a new bump somewhere, or a jagged piece of bone is sticking out of the skin -- anything that suggests everything might not be honky-dory -- go see a doctor

6. Certain grades of sprains need to be immobilized with a splint. See a doc; get xrayed. nt

9. sproken - I knew there was a word for it
I seem to have full range of motion...if only it weren't for this bone sticking out!

It's just the jabbing pain when I walk on it the wrong way.

10. It's probably tempting to wait and see how it heals,
but if it heals badly you could have trouble for the rest of your days. Get it checked out, okay?

Nice to see you. :hi:

12. If you have insurance, definitely see a doctor.
If not, then consider seeing a doctor.

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

and Advil / ibuprofen

Try to stay off it. Consider renting crutches for a few days. Keeping weight off it will make it recover faster.
