5. I know relatively little about him...
but he seems like a decent guy, and I know he is going through one hell of a struggle. I wish him the best, and I am sorry that his condition is causing you worry.

6. I have a signed photo of him
From right after "The Outsiders". I won it in a Tean Beat/Tiger Beat contest! I hadn't even thought of it until you posted this.

I hope he is comforted and without pain.

7. I guess it is inevitable, as with us all, but I really am dreading that news
for some reason. I grew up with Dirty Dancing. And Ghost was in my jr. high years. He was my heartthrob for a long time.

9. Patrick Swayze is 'alive, well,' according to rep
Despite rumors spreading rapidly this morning, actor Patrick Swayze has not died. "This is to confirm that Patrick Swayze did not pass away this morning contrary to severely reckless reports stemming from a radio station in Jacksonville, Florida," his publicist said in a statement. "Swayze is alive, well and is enjoying his life and he continues to respond to treatment." Swayze, 56, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January 2008. In July of that year, he began working 12-hour days, while undergoing chemotherapy, on the A&E drama series The Beast. The show debuted in January 2009. The season finale aired last month.

10. There really is no movie like "Road House"...
...don't get me wrong, there are thousands of movies ranging from classic to unwatchable in which the protagonists beat the living crap out of each other. Road House had its own little vibe, kind of similar to what The Hoff did in "Baywatch," except Patrick did it in one movie instead of ten seasons.

It's a sad reality of life that the spotlight shining on stars when they're popular and making tons of money and living in a world that appears to be, for all intents and purposes, their own personal oyster...is the same spotlight that shines on them when they are struggling with a ravaging illness. Same spotlight...a little brighter, a little harsher, a little hotter...all because "inquiring minds want to know."

He seems like a decent guy who deserves much better treatment from the media, but he's not the first, and he won;t be the last. I'm reminded of Don Henley's lyrics in The Eagles' song "Sad Cafe"..."I don't know why fortune smiles on some, and lets the rest go free..."

Dalton: If somebody gets in your face and calls you a c*******er, I want you to be nice. Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice. I want you to remember that it's a job. It's nothing personal.
Dalton: I want you to be nice until it's time to not be nice.
Steve: Being called a c*******er isn't personal?
Dalton: No. It's two nouns combined to elicit a prescribed response.
Steve: What if somebody calls my mama a whore?
Dalton: Is she?

11. From what I've gathered he doesn't have long.
Honestly, the one thing that I always think of in reference to him is the SNL skit with him and Chris Farley.

He may have been a serious actor most of the time, but he was obviously willing to let loose and have fun too.

14. I hope he can survive...
...to continue to live a full and complete life, and that he may carry on with entertaining the rest of us long into the future.

My father died from the same disease 15 years ago. He had his "golden years" of "retirement" cut short, within <24 months of diagnosis, despite heroic/punishing surgical and chemo efforts, including a last-ditch experimental/research treatment. He had continued to work past the age of 70, both for needed income and as a community service volunteer, but was diagnosed in his 72nd year, and passed within a week of his 74th birthday.

Back on topic, my favorite movie Patrick played in: To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar, and not JUST because I have some costume graphics in it.

Best Wishes and Healing Vibes to Patrick Swayze!
