The kittens at my parents' house were killed last night

My brother was out until 3 am, and came home to...well, carnage. I won't go into details. 2 week-old kittens.

Suspects: the dog, who has never harmed a cat in the many years she's lived with us, or a feral Tom that got in the house somehow, or a wild animal that got in. We live in the woods, basically.

The mother was injured trying to defend them, I guess, but she's ok. Just a facial wound. My brother's keeping a close eye on her.

This has never happened in the 25 years we've lived there. So many kittens, and never this. The only comparable thing was the winter of the killer wild mink, but that was an outdoor cat issue.

Sigh...I don't know what happened. She started birthing them on my bed a week ago tonight, and now they're gone. I feel like if I'd been home, this wouldn't have happened. Fuck. x(
