Help.....Coupee? kupii? Coopee? Sicilian meatloaf.....
hubby came home for a weekend gathering of his old high school friends, just raving about something called Coupee (spelled phonetically, not correctly), which apparently is some sort of Sicilian meatloaf or hamburger. According to him (and he likes to eat) absolutely delicious.

We have been trying to google the recipe - all we know is that is has beef and some type of wheat grain in it (we think). Does anyone know what exactly it is called, so we can search for the recipe? Mucho gracious for any reply....It made my hubby so happy, I would love to replicate it......

THANK YOU!

I have no idea what word they were trying to say, but I googled "Sicilian Meat Loaf", and got a lot of hits for recipes.

3. Thank you!
the recipes sound delicious.

Not sure they are exactly what he had, which, according to him, was a meat and grain type thingy, with spices. Will keep searching, much appreciate your effort, and will let you know what I find.....

5. My nonnie use to make "polpette", which were like little veggieburgers...
I just remembered when I stumbled on this:

http://recipes.epicurean.com/recipe/22812/meat-loaf-/-polpettoni.html

But they weren't meatloaf, like we're used to, they were hand made with meat and corn meal and egg and lots of vegetables and fried in olive oil.

yum!

9. I've never heard of it

But it sounds a damn sight better than the meatloaf my Sicilian mother and grandmother used to serve: ground beef (I doubt there was ground pork in it as well), formed into a loaf with red sauce slathered all over it instead of beef gravy. But the worst part was there was a (shelled) hardboiled egg baked into the middle.
:puke:

And let me tell you, there was nothing nastier than slicing well into the loaf and finding that big ol' yellow eye staring at you.
:scared:

On edit: DAY-UM now that I looked up Capuliatu...that's meatballs stuffed with hardboiled eggs. Must be some sort of variation. I still say...:puke:

10. Did he mean kibbeh, maybe?
It's a Lebanese dish made with ground lamb and bulghur wheat, and it's extremely good.
