Fliers: Any thoughts on Air Tran vs. Frontier?
I have to decide - flights are the same cost, flying through the same airport --- but is one preferable to another?

Thanks!

2. My wife and daughter have flown Air Tran. No problems.
I think they have flown a couple of times on Air Tran.

They actually have good rates into florida these days.

Don't know about frontier.

17. I see. The kids are doing fine, and you got their names right.
Roosevelt (aka Roo) is nearly 20 lbs. Panda dislikes Sonia, and Roo gets along with both of them, though is sort of the defacto leader of the bunch. Sonia is the food cat. Her stomach goes off at 7:00am and 4:00pm when it's time for her can of cat food.

This is their favourite time of year, as the windows are open and they can watch the squirrels and birds.

3. AirTran's old name was ValueJet
If I was forced to pick one, I would fly on Frontier.

9. A series of very bad decisions
Did you ever read the excerpts from the pilot's personal journal? Very scary.

7. I liked Frontier
Really flexable. Flew from Orange County to D.C. via Denver(their hub). They bumped me up to an earlier flight because I was there and the earlier flight wasn't completely booked up. Air Tran is Frontier's partner, I'm flying on them this summer.

10. Frontier is a very good airline.
I flew them monthly for about three years--employees were friendly, very few delays (generally weather-related), and no luggage problems. Also Airbuses are great, and Frontier was transitioning to all Airbuses when I quit having to do the monthly flights. I'm not familiar with Air Tran, but I definitely give Frontier a thumbs-up.

12. thanks, kiva
looks like I have no choice, as I do more research -- Frontier flies AirTran's route for my journey, so it'll be Frontier no matter what! Glad to hear they're good...

13. Frontier did misplace a piece of luggage once.
However, it was delivered to me early the next morning. Otherwise, I've been happy with Frontier. LOVE the TV.

I have nothing to offer on Air Tran.

Usually on time, friendly service, great rates. Plus they give you XM satallite radio.

I can't say anything about Frontier, but I would recommend Airtran.

20. I like Frontier, but be wary of flying them in the winter
Their hub is in Denver, so winter weather can be a problem.

23. but i wouldn't say it's any worse than other place that actually has winter
i've always flown in and out of denver and can remember only one weather-related delay in years and that was due to thunderstorms. but yes, bad winter weather is always a possibility here.

21. frontier, hands down
i flew airtran once and will never, ever do so again. frontier has better service, a bit more room and offers direct tv. it's been years since i've flown anything but frontier and i'm very pleased with them.

22. AirTran has very nice planes and the service is good.
Edited on Wed May-27-09 01:15 PM by LeftyMom
My only horror story with them involves some badly mangled baggage and a worker in the baggage office who was having some kind of an emotional breakdown when I went in there.

They don't fly out of Sacramento but I don't usually mind needing a side trip to the Bay Area for a cheaper flight- I just visit with my favorite aunt who lives a few exits south of SFO.

I've never flown Frontier so I wouldn't know about them. I've heard that the Denver airport is a bit of a nightmare and that's their hub so I've always picked other options.
