Poll question: The taste of black licorice : Love it or Hate it ?? |
|
Have you ever noticed how people tend to either LOVE the taste of black licorice or they HATE it?
There's hardly ever an in-between answer, it's always one extreme or the other.
It's weird. I wonder what it is about that particular taste that makes that happen??
Any ideas?
I happen to be in the LOVE camp, personally. :loveya:
I used to pick out the black jelly beans as the "special ones" when I was a kid.
My son, on the other hand, HATES it. Daughter is in-between, can take it or leave it.
So much for the gene pool theory. :D
BTW just for the record, red licorice is NOT real licorice.

13. too much pure licorice root, the herb |
|
containing glycyrrhetinic acid can be harmful. It does take quite a bit to cause a problem and the amount in candy is minute... don't know about other drug interactions...

And I am by no means a picky eater; I'll eat pretty much anything. The one exception is anything that tastes strongly of licorice, fennel, or anise. Something in my tongue just RECOILS. :puke:

21. Red licorice is so red licorice! Take that back! |
|
Just kidding, but I spent many a day eating red licorice when I was a kid and preferred it to (real) licorice.
I like licorice, but don't eat it very often. Panda brand was offered in the vending machine at my old job -- mmm.

Not a flavor that I would seek out on purpose, but I don't avoid stuff that has anise or fennel either.

It is the official candy of the Netherlands I think. Anyway, at their outdoor markets they have numerous booths with different kinds of licorice, all yummy. White licorice isn’t licorice either; it is anise flavored, hard to tell the difference unless you are a licorice lover.

I like it, and I laughed at your story about black jelly beans. I think one reason I like it is because my two brothers and sister hated it, so I learned I could get more candy at Halloween if I liked the licorice and black jelly beans. :)

So, I only liked red "licorice"
I tried black licorice from Europe at about age 12, and I didn't like it. Black licorice in Europe is not the same as here in the bland packaging, featured in Wal-Mart Stores, Target.

It was abandoned in favor of waterboarding, which was deemed more humane by both interrogators and prisoners alike, I hear.

39. I can eat it - count me as an in-between. |
|
It can be strong though - in your example of jelly beans, those black ones can over power the other flavors - so I tend to pick them out too.

41. proof of Satan's existence... |
|
Proof of Satan's existence. Lev. 13:02-- And the Lord smote the Licorites with his dark, oddly-feeling string of candy saying, "thus have you brought to this world Bad Taste, and henceforth you shall avoid all beasts and all plants and eat only foul Licorice..."
here endeth the lesson.
